Have you ever been able to talk a cop out of giving you a ticket? If so, care to share?
I never intentionally speed, but I've been caught by speed cameras about 20 times doing maybe 4 or 5 kmph over an advertised limit. Average cost per fine is about $220. It usually happens when I'm not focusing on the speedo and accidentally looking at where I'm driving.
Wow, that's rather expensive. I have no idea what it would cost here in the States.
It is very expensive. Speeding in a school zone can be double that. The thing is, that it targets low income earners the most. So people like doctors etc that speed, it costs them like ten minutes of their income and they really don't care. For someone in a low income job it can cost them a weeks pay and can affect their whole family life.
That's just sooooooooo wrong. As usual the poor gets the low end of the deal.
I totally agree. There are some places in Europe where they fine you a percentage of your income. So someone working at Walmart might get fined $40 while a billionare might lose their new convertible. I've suggested that here but the wealthy seem freaked out by the idea, don't know why. They say, no, why change a system that's worked so well for so long. lol
Sounds like you have a screwed up system too.
Yes, nobody is immune to ideas that increase the gap between rich and poor.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
Two tickets. One in 1981 and one in 1992. And one in 2008 in Baghdad for speeding.
That's pretty good. For some reason I never think of Baghdad as having nice roads or cops! lol I need to get out more. lol Thanks for your comments.
I would love to have heard your excuses. lol
Nope I talked my way in to one
One Speeding and a one seat belt violation is all I have had.
That's great. Just don't get smart with a cop again. lol
Yes I learned my lesson.
Good girl, I'd hate to see you in an orange jump suit.
Thank ya..Me either..Orange just ain't a good color on me
Me either, I stay completely away from orange.
Yes, I do speed. In New York, mostly 15-20 mph over the limit. On the PA Turnpike, I've done 90 mph. However, I have never been caught, nor have I ever received a speeding ticket.
We must be sisters, same with me. I drive pretty fast and have never been pulled over for any reason. Do you drive in New York City. For some reason I always think of just taxis.
No, I won't drive in NYC - too many taxis and trucks. I drive out on Long Island and in PA.
I've heard the traffic in NYC is crazy...and most people take taxis....wow, how can they afford that expense every day.
I've never been to NYC, but was in upstate NY a year ago for a wedding. And I was surprised, it was just like the area where I live.
Most New Yorkers use public transportation to get around - bus or subway. Taxis are expensive, so unless you're being reimbursed or can afford it, you don't.
OK, I forgot about the subways there. We don't have any here where I live.... we do have public transportation but they buses don't come out to where I live....so we drive everywhere we go.
NYC and Long Island have pretty good public transportation systems. I don't live on Long Island, but I shop out there because there's mostly free parking everywhere you shop. Where I live, it's more congested, parking is very difficult and the shopping isn't that great.
I have a family member who is in NYC studying for one year, and due back home in June. And he loves it. I doubt he's gets out and about a lot, his studies keep him busy. but he loves the hustle and bustle of the big city, we're just hoping that's a phase and he'll come back home to stay soon.
There's no denying that the City has a lot to offer and a uique vibe. Nothing slow-paced about it. :)
That would drive me nuts. lol
It's all a matter of what you get used to. When I go to places that are slow-paced, I want to crawl out of my skin. Where my friend lives in Florida, every time you go through a toll booth, the collector chats with you. Same in the supermarket. I just want to get through the toll or pay for my things and get our of there - I don't want to chat.
I guess it's what one gets used to. I guess we're kinda middle in the road types here. Traffic is horrendous, and people are getting meaner, I do chat sometimes in the grocery checkout lane but not often.
There's no chatting in the checkout line because the cashiers are usually chatting with each other.
lol I've had that happen. I took a pair of slacks back this morning to Kohl's, and the gal that was taking care of me was talking in her headset, I didn't know if she was talking to me....telling me to take a break....or what. lol
I find it irritating that they can't take a few minutes to pay attention to the customer in front of them.
I agree. I'll bet they would pay more attention if someone gave them the wrong amount of money.
Somehow, I'm not so sure. :)
Okie, dokie. lol
I thought I was driving at 70 on a 60 mph highway...till I see vehicles pass me like I was standing still
I've been in that situation before....lol Not good.
None, I do not do that.
Do you drive? Most bluejays fly! lol
When someone has their name down in the right corner it is copyright. Lets respect other people thngs.
You need a sense of humor, Pal!
You know that bluejay bird picture is copyright.
