Disinfranchized young men, mostly. Easily swayed.
I feel sad that so many are made to feel
That cruelty and violence will give them some sort of answer.
They are mostly unwitting pawns.

Young men who are maybe underprivileged, maybe bullied, maybe misunderstood, maybe feel they have no control over their lives, maybe all or some of those things.
Thank you.... It also sounded like a term from the olden days where the first born boy would inherit everything...so the second and third sons were aimless....

Not really, but then I have issues understanding anyone, even myself at times. So my answer does not particularly surprise me.
I understand that some ideas are worth dying for... Just haven't ever been in a situation where I honestly felt like it had come to that.
No not at all...half the time I don't understand the things I do...except I let my emotions get the best of me
The easiest way to get people to join a militant group is to convince then they are "victims" and are "entitled" to something.

Religious beliefs aren't worth dying or killing for.
Anyone that has successfully completed boot camp can understand them. They give them purpose, comradery and make them feel invincible and righteous. The difference is that we were trained and motivated with the ideal of protecting our nation and they are trained and motivated to destroy infidels. If you want to feel sorry for them, that's fine. I feel that they are like mad dogs. They cannot be retrained so you have to put them down. It's a sad truth, but it's real.
I got the impression his family were not even ever expecting this lad home.....
