While everyone should be courteous to one another, we don't need a leader who is subservient to others. If we wanted the Saudi king in charge, we would have voted for him. We are the most powerful nation on Earth; we only bow to God.
Some acknowledgment is necessary and if you do it consciously it's not a bad thing.
The POTUS never bows to anyone - protocol says that the office of the President of the United States puts whoever holds the office on the same footing/level as any other country leader, regardless of royalty, or if the person is elected. Example is that the queen of Morocco (if such a person exists) would not bow to the queen of England, nor her to the other. The presidency is on that same level. Also, no one should bow to whoever holds the office. To bow shows submission.
Should not bow before anyone but the Lord Jesus Christ. I cant imagine just shaking His hand.
To me, bowing is a sign of subservience.
Delicate balance there between humility and arrogance.
Humility clearly doesn't translate to humiliation unless your Obama I guess.
And arrogance doesn't mean hubris unless your Trump I guess.
Obama greeted the Saudi royals as a subservient. Trump greeted them cordially, but as equals. People noticed the difference. I don't think it's too complicated for an intelligent fellow like you to understand, but maybe your perspective is clouded by partisan politics.
'Well done steak and ketchup' lmfao
It has nothing to do with humility or arrogance. It has to do with going into a situation as a "leader" and declaring by actions, that you are equal. Trump did it, Obama didn't.
I've lived in those cultures.
Protocol says the POTUS is considered on equal footing with any other country leader or royalty and never bows down...of course, that didn't matter to Obama.
The guy was putting a medal around his neck, bending down a bit to make it easier is the courteous thing to do in that circumstance. It's also a display of humility in receiving an honor, to stand straight and make him reach would have been a display of arrogance.
if they both bow is subservient? in some societies it is the same as a hand shake. why do we always only look at things form an American point of view?
No Trump didn't bow he curtsied. What an ass
