The problem isn't private banks - it's government overspending for decades! Victoria's solution; for government to fund it's own debt would open floodgates of inflation.
Stop buying every shiny object in the store! Just like your budget and mine - government can not spend money it will never have! Unlike you and I ; government can print more money to pay down it';s debt - making your money worth less and less with every dollar printed.

Yeah - I've always known that if the government handed me a red pencil I could save this country a LOT of money. Your example is a perfect one on what I'm talking about.
Duh, the government has to pay high prices because any government deal has a lot of strings attached, and it's d*m expensive to comply with those extra requirements.
