Electrical/chemical processes constantly alter the composition of our brains. In my opinion they are far from immutable.
I also believe we can "shape" our thinking by repetition. For instance, when someone first starts playing a musical instrument he/she may have difficulty with simple things. Then after practicing over and over the person can do much more difficult things without even thinking about it. I believe this is because neural paths have been created and reinforced.
