Does the 'rule of law' exist if there is no one to enforce it?

Some schools are now threatening to suspend students who do not stand for the pledge or the anthem. This has already been tried by the supreme court and found unconstitutional (West Virginia State BOE v Barnette). But it doesn't matter if the state police won't enforce the court's ruling. If our very president doesn't stand up for the rights of the people over the ego of the state, then the rule of law is meaningless.

No it does not. One might think that laws have sound reasoning and still adhere to them...but there is nothing to stop you from running a stop sign when there is no one around.

Did I answer this right or was there a hidden agenda??

We have a tradition of:
-free speech and the right to peacefully protest,
-the right to petition government for redress of grievances,
-the right to bear arms,
These are American traditions

Whenever a government becomes destructive of these ends it is our right to alter or to abolish it.
These are American traditions.

What is not a tradition is forcing our beliefs on others, making people stand when they want to kneel, that is not our tradition. We can make the government stand when it wants to kneel, but we cannot make a person do that, this is America.

No one is forcing NFL players to stand.

Many people are telling the kneelers that they are jag offs for disrespecting the nation in that way.

You lefties are such drama queens.

Oh, really, Vic?

It seems that it really depends on whose hypocritical ox is being gored. But of course PC lefties are no strangers to hypocrisy. biggrin smilie

Politics and religion have no place in a schoolroom.
Forced patriotism is false patriotism.

Come on, uncle.

Jude Law is immortal. He will be here to rule us.

Well, I would agree that there are a lot more laws than there are resources available to enforce them. We probably wouldn't like it if there were enough resources.

Get over yourself Vic.
Laws can be challenged and corrected. It doesn't always work though, Sometimes you have thick headed law makers that would rather keep a destructive law with the hope that they will gain even more power when it fails - like Obamacare.

School Districts can pass their rules insisting that students stand for the pledge. Then busy bodies like yourself and the ACLU can come in, make a big stink to further divide the country. You know lie that Communist Manifesto said you would do all those years ago.

The school district rule will likely fail in court. Or, maybe not. But either way - law was enforced.

I suppose our rule of law principles would fracture, eventually become unrecognizable, meaningless, then dust in the wind. Certainly, little bands of humans would form to ensure that law, as they'd see it, would be enforced, but it wouldn't be a national thing, anymore... I don't think.
