Another case. By some measures, civil forfeiture have cost US citizens more since Jeff Sessions' appointment than the sum of all robberies in that same time. In this case no crime was committed yet gov keeps the cash. More crooked dealings from this administration. Edited: This post is unneccessarily biased. Session is not to "blame" for this. Let's just try to get this more under control. Taking money from innocent people needs to stop.

I will take "big gov" over crooked gov any day.

Analysis | A 64-year-old put his life savings in his carry-on. U.S. Customs took it without charging him with a crime. It's not a crime to travel with large amounts of cash, but authorities often treat it that way.https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2018/05/31/a-64-year-old-put-his-life-savings-in-his-carry-on-u-s-customs-took-it-without-charging-him-with-a-crime/?noredirect=on

Does that mean I should shut up and let the criminals in the government have a heyday?

It is criminal in my opinion.

As I mentioned to Maze below. Holder was trying to undo this, or at least limit forfeiture just to actual criminals. Session undid that.

Holder was working to help fix the problem and Sessions undid that.

I said "by some measures, civil forfeiture have cost US citizens more since Jeff Sessions' appointment than the sum of all robberies in that same time" because these numbers had been reversing under Holder.

I don;t know what the numbers would be if Sessions had stuck with the existing policy, but I expect it would've continue to get better.

The United States does not limit the amount of cash you can take into or out of the country. But anything over $10,000 has to be reported. This dude reported nothing. He had the money hidden within his luggage.

If the guy is just stupid and did a stupid thing, then of course he should get his money back - less any fines.
