I honestly believe people who grew up poor make the best food. There was a time when me, my mom and my little brother shared a single hard boiled egg for dinner. No such thing as picky. I see kids throwing out whole plates of food. That drives me nuts. I guess what I’m saying is that those who simply appreciate the existence of food, have probably learned to make it taste better.

Yes exactly. When you don't have much, you have to get creative with what little you've got. Meat loaf is an example; it was invented during the depression to stretch ground beef, and now it's a staple food in most people's households, and everyone's got their own unique variation of it.

I don't think wealth really had much to do with whether or not food was the best tasting, or the worst. We grew up eating, what we grew up eating. I grew up poor and some of those simple inexpensive dishes are still some of my favorites. I'm sure that those who had more money, also has certain dishes their parents made that they loved to eat, no matter what it cost to make.
The difference, in those who had money and those who didn't, is probably more reflected in how the kids appreciated being able to fill their bellies, when it wasn't always possible.

Wasting food is a crime in our house because I did grow up hungry. If it can't be eaten or if it not suitable for the dogs the last stop is the compost heap. Waste nothing.

No fakery, no bullshit, just honest food that fills you up and makes you grateful.

I had icecream with strawberries this morning and I felt like a million bucks. I grew up eating potatoes, potatoes, potatoes. Well, growing up at a farm, there wasn't that many fancy choices. Now, though, when I go to the shops and get myself the ingredients for a self-made pizza, I feel like a bit of a dick. I know I shouldn't, but... Yeah.

I grew up in a large family, we didn't have a lot of material things, but we always had good food. Mainly because my mother knew how to stretch the food that we had. I can't ever remember having a steak nor snacks. Food was never wasted at our home.
