Who do you think is the least-notable U.S. president?
Which president do you think most people know nothing about (or accomplished nothing noteworthy during their tenure)? Remember, being notable for something bad is still being notable. So I'm not asking for the worst president, just the least known.
I'm going to say either Rutherford B. Hayes or Chester A. Arthur.
I'd think Obama is more discussed than say, Benjamin Harrison.
Although Harrison did oversee the passing of the Sherman Antitrust Act...
Chester Arthur
Zack Taylor.
Just in my opinion.
That's fair. I know something about Polk, but Taylor I can barely think of.
Only president for like 13 months I think. Noteworthy for that I guess. Went straight from being a general in the Mexican American war to being President.
Gerald Ford.
Ford is notable for pardoning Nixon, which was probably the right thing to do, it allowed the country to heal. He is also very notable for providing a comedy platform for Chevy Chase's pratfalls on Saturday Night Live
I know he got teased a lot about falling, am I right?
Oh yeah, he was a bit clumsy at times and SNL just magnified it. Ford was always a good sport about it though, I believe he even appeared with Chevy Chase on SNL a couple times, not positive about that though.
I always liked Ford, and think he got a bum deal. He should have been re-elected. And that coming from a Democrat. lol
Yeah, Ford isn't very notable. The presidents that came before him, Nixon, Johnson, and Kennedy are all noteworthy, and then you have Ford, who was not elected to the office of VP or President. His most noteworthy action was pardoning Nixon.
Ford did much good work after he was president. Much more so than others.
That's true. I was trying to think of the president that caught cold on his inauguration day and died a few days or weeks later. Do you know who I'm talking about?
William H. Harrison? But see he's notable for having the shortest presidency. So technically I'd say he's not the least known.
That's who I thought it was, but I was just guessing. Thanks.
That probably goes to James Buchanan. Our one and only Pennsylvanian, and quite possibly gay president... and he wasn't fabulous at all. The wait-and-see approach didn't really work did it? Among other things.
Even William Henry Harrison gets more mention than this guy and he died one month later after inaugeration. Still, I think even he is candidate for least notable in terms of what he accomplished.
Well he has no relation to Pat Buchanan I think. But it would explain a lot.
I looked Buchanan up. Seems funny people were more open to other lifestyles than in current times.
Not always, some had to hide it well. James did by sending letters to his lover, and if he was married I think it might have been a sham one to conceal his difference.
People did sham marriages to conceal their lifestyles from public eye. I think James would've had to, since it wasn't public knowledge until the letters or his diary were discovered.
Out of every President, he's the only one whose name I didn't remember. Did he even do anything at all?
Mallard Fillmore... :)
Obama,the do nothing President.
