Do you have a favourite movie director?

I'm not much of a movie buff, but I've made a point of seeing everything by Stanley Kubrick and Wes Anderson (could they be more different?). Just watched Fantastic Mr. Fox again and I'm reminded why I need to see more movies.

I think I've seen everything Hitchcock ever made. He could make doing the laundry suspenseful.

I agreee! And I loved the way he routinely made subtle cameo appearances in his movies. a smilie

This is a weird thing to say, since all of the women on the site seem to think I can't see past the breasts, or the looney toons lower.

I quite like James Cameron's ex-wife. Strange Days, for example, is a great flick. She did absolutely wonderful job directing it.

Christopher Nolan is overrated, but certainly a good director. "Inception", "The Prestige" and "Memento" are among my favorite films.

I love the old Vincente Minelli films like "Meet Me In St. Louis", "Gigi", "An American In Paris", "Till The Clouds Roll By", "The Sandpiper" .... and dozens more. His attention to detail was wonderful.

Somewhat partial to Gus Van Sant, yet I enjoy movies of all genre. Big nod to Kubrick and to Eastwood.

All time fav is still Werner Herzog. Never saw any movie he made that I did not enjoy - I think I've seen most.

oh goodness almost forgot Luis Buñuel - pure genius! But Herzog still wins in my book.

Kicking myself for leaving Bergman off the list. Persona. The Seventh Seal. Wild Strawberries.

And Fellini.

Oh god - Lynch!

You really got me going on this one. Good post.

I've only seen one Bergman movie, "Through a Glass Darkly", but I liked it. It was disturbing and I'd like to see more.

Great one. All are disturbing and slightly surreal, they twist at my psyche and make me question reality.

Try Buñuel if you want to cross into another dimension. Here's his first, they get weirder

Tim Burton, love his style.
Chris Columbus, a lot of my favourite movies like The Goonies, Harry Potter, Home Alone.
Byron Howard, some of the disney movies, including Zootopia
Jon Favreau, Iron Man series, Zathura, The Jungle Book,
Joss Whedon - he directed some of my favourite tv and movies like Avengers and Agents of SHIELD, though he wrote several as well.

No I don't think there are any good movies right now - so I hold off till it is on tv.
