This person believes that if you have a mental disease, whatever is it, it's because you allowed that to happen. You're weak and you didn't fight it hard enough. The ironic thing, that person has some mental issues. Anger problems to be more exact.
Yes. I know many people who think those who experience debilitating depression and or have anxiety issues, should be able to just "snap out of it". That, or just take a pill and they'll be all better.
Yes. There's always someone who believes the cure to severe depression is exercise. But I understand. For awhile fibromyalgia seemed bogus to me.
I don't think I personally know anyone who thinks that, but I definitely don't doubt that they exist.
I've actually seen people say a similar thing about diseases in general, claiming something along the lines of "It's mostly because of their own bad choices that people fall ill". (Right, tell that to flu, cancer, accidents, etc.)
Ignorance can take people into believing a lot of insane things.
I know many. They come up with all sorts of bullshit. Examples to follow.
• “It could be worse!”
• “You did it to yourself.”
• “Stop crying, little bitch! Grow some balls!”
• “Get off your arse and find a new hobby.”
• “You will always be less. That’s just nature.”
• “Satan is doing this to you.”
• “It’s just a phase. You’ll outgrow it.”
You're weak is a common one I've heard.
My response? Look in the mirror.
Yes, I know a person with severe depression and her family just laughs about it, and tells her to get over it. Sad.
I would say there is still a good chunk of society who doesn't take mental illnesses seriously. If they can't see an illness than it doesn't exist.
Well take heart ladies and gentlemen!
Now, anyone can have a mental disorder!
Even people that are FAKING a mental disorder - you guessed it - they HAVE a mental disorder!
I know people with mental disorders of one kind or another.
I really don't have time for their drama - real or imagined.
No, no it doesn't.
