What do you think of the new Army religious directive which allows the wearing of the hijab, the wear of the beard, and the wear of a turban or under-turban/patka, with uncut beard and uncut hair? (This is for soldiers while in uniform) Army Directive 2018-19

I was USMC, and that would never have flown in the 70s

The military isn't what it used to be. I just hope this doesn't backfire on our soldiers or civilians.

I don't think much of it either. I think it will just open a can of worms. The military is not the place to do social experiments.

I'm sure wearing a beard or long hair will come in handy, during the hand-to-hand training.

I don't like the idea .... not in the military.

It doesn't seem much different, really, from former policies allowing certain religious exemptions .

I remember when I was in basic. A goofy looking boy with a heavy southern accent became a target. Whether the boys came back from leave drunk and needed someone to wail on, or some dude got a Dear John letter and needed someone to vent his frustration on.

Well, goofy looking boys with a heavy southern accents will be a little safer now.

That's ridiculous. Whatever happened to the rules that most had to follow.
