Should US state and federal governments be passing laws to protect Israeli businesses?
A Texas speech pathologist lost her contract after refusing to sign an anti-BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) affirmation.
After Hurricane Harvey, one Texas city required people seeking relief grants to sign such a pledge.
Currently 26 states have such laws, while 13 more and the federal government have similar laws pending.
Two federal judges (Kansas and Arizona) have already ruled againgst such laws, as they infringe upon expressive rights protected under the 1st Amendment.
I object to such laws for two reasons. The government is bound by the Constitution to protect and not restrict our free expression, and boycotting is a part of free expression. And I do not agree with laws intended to protect other countries.
What are your thoughts on these laws prohibiting boycotts of Israeli businesses?
