It depends which sect of Islam ... or what time period.
Prior to 1900, Islam would be compatible with most "free" governments.
If you go back to the European Dark Ages ... Islamic nations were a bastion of free thought and knowledge.

Unfortunately, western nations have themselves to blame for modern "radical" Islam.
im not talking about islam in the past, i don;t live in that time period, i live in the now, today, besides i can show you the real reason for the crusades, and you would soon see islam was the same then as it is now. only the west would not stand for it then, where as today we are bending over backwards for it.
i agree we shouldn;t be in their countries, but we shouldn;t be letting them in either
Nor can you view the Islam of today without looking at it's history, and how it got to where it is today. Especially how the events around WWI and WWII ... and the rush for oil ... resulted in overthrowing moderate Islamic regimes (which wouldn't sell oil to the west) in favor of more radical ones (that would sell oil to the west).
..
So if you aren't talking about Islam of the past, you are ignoring a large cause of the problem.
Well in his defence, it's becoming compatible with western society because western society is bending over backwards to appease violent religious extremism.

I could argue the "real" reason for the Crusades was because the nobility of Europe had too many sons and too little land.
