I think I grew up "on" the tracks. Didn't really fit in on either side and just had to keep watching for trains.
Somewhere in the middle, I suppose. My father was in the military, and we moved around quite a bit. We never lived anywhere that could be considered the "'wrong' side of the tracks" though, except by the snootiest of those who make such judgments.

It all depended on where our military father was sent, it could be either side. We learned a lot, saw a lot and appreciated both sides for what they both bring to the table.
