If I were forced to leave the USA, I would probably choose Ireland.
I was asked that question when I was in high school, which was 1959, and I rattled off the names of a half dozen cities that I considered equivalent to anything the USA had going. But now I feel it would be a mistake to make myself an expatriate. The fact is one never feels at home anyplace but at home.
I would never want to live in another country, but if I HAD to, I would choose Australia.
Somewhere it's warm....The other night, the temp got down to 9°F (about -12°C) and I don't even live that far north.
