Being able to pay your bills and afford nice things is definitely conducive to happiness, and it's easy to think that having more money is always better, and it's true to a point. But having your material desires satisfied only gets you so far. True happiness requires love, and that means family. The things that matter most in life sometimes cost money, but they cannot be purchased.
Spike Milligan said something along the lines of 'being rich doesn't necessarily make you happy but it gets you lots of friends!'

Money doesn't make one happy, but without it one can be very miserable.
