When you consider the horrors inflicted on the populations of various countries by socialists over the last 100 years, why is socialism considered an acceptable ideology? We reject other destructive ideologies, why does socialism get a pass?
Some are just rebelling against western society, others are brainwashed by the school system. The people who love communism tend to live sheltered lives, have never even met someone from a communist country let alone experienced one first hand, and they have no idea what it's actually like, they just think it was some kind of utopia where everyone gets a job, place to live, and everyone lives in equality.
Put a pretty face and talk real nice and people will believe anything you are pedaling.
It seems that the people with money and the people without any are the ones who are in favor of socialism.
The ones in the middle who are working, paying their bills and for the bills of others don't even have a voice in
this. Bernie Sanders became a millionaire off the backs of others so the capitalist system seems to have worked for him. What is happening with his wife's situation? We don't hear much about that anymore.
Blaming socialism for that is like stubbing your toe while eating peanut butter and blaming the butter for it. Socialism is by no means better, in fact every system has major flaws, you can't win no matter what, there will always be disadvantaged people. If everyone was rich no one would want to be a janitor, a trashman, a sewer cleaner and whatnot.

Given the success of 9/10 of those countries ... I think the answer is obvious why "socialism gets a pass".
Even China is experiencing a growing economy, growing middle class, and growing freedoms (as long as you don't speak out against the government too loudly).
The government does not own the means of production in any of those countries, even China. But although China got a measure of wealth by embracing capitalism, it does have many of the classic traits of far left socialism, like a shocking disregard for the rights of its political opponents.
