I think many folks will admit,
When the tale of our era is writ,
What we lacked really bad,
That our ancestors had,
Was tenacity, courage and grit. ★
★ not everyone, of course, just too many.
Especially grit. Too many people today curl up in a fetal position at the slightest adversity or obstacle. Heaven forbid if they get constipated. They'll have to call and hire a consultant, or their mommy.
The world is a heck of a lot more hectic today.
Dru, think of what the generation born around 1910 had to face. Two world wars, tens of millions of untimely, cruel deaths, economic depression and joblessness, and then the Cold War. And they overcame it all.
They haven't been called the Greatest Generation for nothing.
Oh I agree completely with that. They knew what hard work and self sacrifice was all about.
I was thinking more along the lines of pace and technology, which is being created so fast that people are having a hard time catching up.
Yes, but it doesn't take true grit to get thru it. All it takes a mouse and a click. Could you imagine what would happen if the internet went down permanently?
Yes, a whole generation would be lost.
I would say the value of a hard day's work.
Commitment. "For better or worse, in sickness and in health..."
Self sufficiency seems to be evaporating day by day.
Being swift, forceful, stong and mysterious.
