In a country like India where the standard of life of millions is far from satisfactory, incurring huge expenditure on official functions of ministers and officials, even in regular programmes, by way of decorations, garlands and bouquets is a colossal waste of hard earned money. These functions can be simple events and need not be conducted like gala celebrations. On an annual basis such expenditures may run into millions. Is this a civilised practice? amirite?

Before elections these politicians almost beg for votes but after winning they don't care a bit for wasting people's money. Politicians by themselves will not reform. we need to develop a people's movement to discipline the political class. The ruling and the opposition concept in governance has failed miserably in correcting this malady. This will continue as long as we harbour great faith in the so called democratic elections. True representatives never get elected in our elections Only henchmen of political parties get elected or rather selected. Social ills such as communalism, casteism ( India) and religious fundamentalism do not allow people to elect their true representatives. Bogus representatives cannot be expected to behave reasonably and responsibly.

Yes you are correct. But we need some solution to set right the malady. The malady lies in the society.

Social ills such as communalism, casteism ( India) and religious fundamentalism do not allow people to elect their true representatives. Humanism should prevail over all other isms. Now there is so much of diversity that segregates people into water tight compartments leading to large scale alienation. People are not able to see eye to eye even in the need for common necessities. Social reform that will instill "fellow human being" feeling is the need of the hour. This alone can usher in the creation of a much better civilised society.
