Gun laws would be respected by law-abiding people.
Gun laws would not be respected by law-breaking people.
Essentially the same with just about any law, e.g., illegal aliens, drug users, drug pushers, traffic violators, thieves, etc.
Just because someone doesn't respect one law doesn't mean they wouldn't respect another.
People speed, drink under age, smoke weed, shoplift, whatever. But that doesn't mean that those people would disregard gun laws.
Likewise, someone that would disregard gun laws may not violate other laws. That doesn't mean that we should just make everything else legal.
And just because someone doesn't respect one law does not mean they WOULD repect another.
Regardless, I'm not talking necessarily about the same individuals.
I'm referring to the nature of human beings to break any law that tries to prevent them of getting something they want, especially if they have any premeditated desire to break another law AFTER they get what they want with which to commit a crime.
Law-abiding people in principle will not likely break gun laws.
Law breaking people with desires that are criminal in principle will likely break gun laws.
That's exactly what I'm saying. "Law abiding" people don't necessarily follow all laws.
I'd like to challenge you to find someone that's never broken the law - not even once. Never sped, never jay-walked, nothing.
I know I don't follow all laws. Hell, my desires follow even fewer. But that doesn't mean I act on all of those desires, because I have something that a lot of people have: self-restraint.
Yep just like those "no shop lifting" signs keep people from stealing
Absofuckin'lutely...as we well know, no one has ever unloaded in a gun-free zone because it is against the law... Oh, wait...
Of course "bad" people get past gun laws. That is also, of course, why many people vehemently oppose most any new law even remotely restricting any damn thing about their "right" to buy any kind of gun or ammunition they wish to.
