And it hurts like heck when they are sideways and have to be cut out.

You get them later in life, when you're supposed to be wiser. Also most people died by 35 so getting them at 16 was middle age.

That's a myth. The average age was so low because many infants died, those who lived beyond 18 often lived far older than 35.
