Video games have come full circle from arcades to games as service: unwinnable by design to keep players paying as long as possible. amirite?

Games as a service in the form of an MMORPG or competitive lobby shooters are different from traditional video games though, their big selling point is they continue to evolve over time which the other genres don't do.
