No offense, the football team only had defenders in their starting 11

No offense but kittens are cute

@Mytokhondria No offense but kittens are cute

No offense but oxygen is vital to sentient life on earth

It's similar if you say, I'm not a racist but …

Not definitely but most of the time

No offense, bit is only offensive if you let it be.

Yes defense

Not really, though. I use the phrase when I know what I say can be interpreted as offensive, but I want to make it clear that that is not my intention and I'm simply bad with words sometimes.

unless the team literally cannot field an offense, and forfeit

I'd have to disagree. I've had others say those words to me and what was said wasn't remotely offensive. Some people just use the phrase to ensure others don't misunderstand their intent, or to try to lessen the blow of something they're concerned will be taken as offensive.

"No offense intended, but that is the most hideous shirt I ever seen."

"Right?? I love it: pisses my wife off every time I wear it in public!"

(An actual conversation I was part of.)

I like calling it 'Sugar Free' constructive ciritism.
