For me, yes. It is always the correct answer.

Always? Well then riddle me this, why did I fail calculus when I gave a sincere IDK?

@Thenaturelover Always? Well then riddle me this, why did I fail calculus when I gave a sincere IDK?

Because you didn't give THE correct answer required in an engineered context. If you wrote 'I don't know' as the answer, that would have been a correct answer. That may not have been the answer they were looking for but it certainly isn't incorrect. If you had given wrong answer then that would be incorrect. "What's 2+2?!" Answer: "12" is incorrect, answer "I don't know", is correct just not the correct answer they are looking for. Examiners and those that write the exams are not some gods of truth.

"Should sex with those under 12 become legalised and encouraged?" "I don't know. Sincerely." "What a nonse."

It's not the correct answer but it's a true answer.

@Cheytuflya It's not the correct answer but it's a true answer.

'Wibble', is a true answer but an utterly incorrect answer to, "How deep is the deepest part of the ocean in centimetres?" Whereas, "I don't know", would be a correct answer.

I don't know.

How many children are in your basement?

I don't know

"Why did you kill all those people?"
"I dunno."

If someone asks you what 1 + 1 is. "I don't know" is not the correct answer. You just don't know.

@LookAnAltAccount Yes it is, providing it was sincere,

No it's not, it could be sincere, it could be not sincere, but it's not the correct answer.

@Trashy21 No it's not, it could be sincere, it could be not sincere, but it's not the correct answer.

This is correct. "Idk" cannot be the correct answer to "1+1=?".

OP, if u really dont know, saying "idk" might be a proper response, but thats not the same as the correct answer.

In fact, "idk" would only be the correct answer to a variety of specific questions(such as "whats ur favorite color?"). That doesnt mean its the correct answer to questions that have a correct answer and that u just dont happen to know what that answer is.

Unless you're my stepdad in which case "I don't know" is a sign of disrespect.

It depends on how you define correct.
