+184 It's ridiculous how thousands of people can trust a chemical compound made by pharmaceutical company's purely for PROFIT over a natural herb that has been used by the most successful civilizations in all of humanity with no harmful repercussions for thousands of years. amirite?

Weed is a "natural herb." Most of these "chemical compounds" you've mentioned are derived from natural herbs, and just concentrated in a more useful form.

Also, people have been using hallucinogenics for centuries and calling it magic. Many of these hallucinogens have been used by religious groups for centuries. With new science we've learned that these are dangerous drugs and that there are in fact many dangerous side effects. That's why many of these "natural herbs" which have been used for centuries (i.e. shrooms) are now illegal.

Centuries-more like thousands of years. Actually Native Americans still use peyote in rituals as well as to keep teens from alcohol addiction and gambling believe it or not. Shrooms are illegal because the government does not want a bunch of free minds.

Haha I think shrooms are illegal for the same reason weed is, simply because if they legalize one drug, people will keep pushing for more and more, because they'll know that there is a breaking point. It's simply easier to keep stuff illegal and just turn a blind eye.

Welp, The Netherlands where pot is legal actually has LESS drug use than the U.S. Pot and shrooms are natural, anything else is disgusting and not worth it. They pretty much already have a legal heroin though, its a pharmaceutical called Oxycontin, its one molecule away from heroin but they dont care because they make money off of it. I dont care that you dont smoke weed or anything like that, I'm just saying that the war on drugs is pretty fuckin backwards and twisted

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Pot today is not natural. It has tons of added chemicals to enhance the high. Shrooms as well. Also in Europe where they've legalized drugs, drug related deaths are higher than anywhere in the world. The drug problem is worse there than anywhere. So clearly legalizing drugs isn't the answer. Oxycotin is not heroin. I'm not going to get into science, but something being one molecule away from another can make it an entirely different thing. So the whole heroin thing is wrong. Oxycotin is an example of a highly abused drug. It's not made to be used like it is. People get prescriptions for legitimate reasons and abuse it to make money. Dirty doctors abuse their job to make extra money. All the money from the illegally sold oxycotin goes to drug dealers the same as any drug. Prescription drugs aren't meant to be abused, they're made by people trying to help. As long as there are people looking to get high, drugs will always be a problem, prescription or otherwise.

Oxycontin is synthetic heroin, and some people do start of taking prescription drugs for the right reasons but become addicted anyway. You should see the Documentary American Drug War:The Last White Hope. Its pretty much about how the drug war is faulty, and the CIA bringing crack into the US. The guy who created it lost 3 family members to legal drugs ( alcohol, meds)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Drugs that are addictive enough to cause addiction with prescribed use (such as morphine) are often used in cases where the user can be weaned off the drug. They become dependent. It's faulty, yes, and drugs need to be tested extensively before public use. However, good can and does come from pharmaceuticals. Many drugs (such as Meth) were created initially for use in hospitals. However, this was before people truly understood what these drugs were capable of, before they had the science or know-how to understand. It's unfortunate, but you can't change the past. Crack would have happened eventually. Cocaine was used widely for hundreds of thousands of years. Hell, it was even sold in Cola. Crack IS cocaine. So, therefore, Cocacola is responsible. That's illogical. These drugs existed and would have evolved eventually. Who is behind which exact transformation is unimportant as it was inevitable.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know those drugs have been around and would have evolved eventually. But, there is proof that the CIA brought lots of coke into the US to fund wars, they also brought a lot of drugs from vietnam too. At the time they were bringing all this coke in, people were starting to make crack out of it and its when crack really hit big. That's just simply fucked up, they put t people in jail.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFq6UUhm424&feature=related

there are a lot more videos where that came from

Also, I have smoked weed. I know few people who haven't. The war on drugs is futile because there will always be people looking for a high. Always. Drugs have been around as long as people have, it's a part of our history. The difference is that now people know better. But unfortunately drugs have become stronger and more dangerous and more addictive, so even though people know the risks, they're willing to take them for that high.

You're smoking bad weed if it's chemically enhanced, just sayin'.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

The fact that anyone can actually still be stupid enough in this day and age to believe that just because something is "natural" that it must be good for you is simply astonishing. Asbestos is a mold. That means it's natural and therefore it must be good for you. So all the stoners can just start and lace their joints with that. Maybe after everyone that thinks that weed is actually not bad for people's health are gone, humanity as a whole can finally progress.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous well actually the only 'chemicals' people put into weed are nutrients that are found in soil, and you only really need to do that if you're growing hydro because of the lack of soil. its not like the shit in cigarettes. Im not trying to say weed isnt bad, but you dont have to just smoke it either. It can be eaten or vaporized

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Son, asbestos is a mineral. Foxglove is a perfectly natural plant: so is tobacco. How many people who say this get and smoke natural (so non-tobacco-company) tobacco? Any of them chew? I've never seen a smoker say it.

This post can be applied to homeopathic medicines too you know. I actually thought that's what it was about until I read the comments.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yeah I think people have not realized that this post is about medicine. There are a lot of prescription drugs that are harmful and addicting or just have a ton of shitty symptoms. Marijuana can be used in a homeopathic way. Medical marijuana actually saved a 10 year old autistic boys life, and you can google that shit.
