It just happened that the people entering Kevin's home were criminals with ill intent. Laws against booby traps are not in place to protect criminals, but rather they protect people who have a legitimate reason to enter your home sans permission. Firefighters, paramedics, and cops with a warrant.

In America, if you set a trap with the intent of harming someone, sign or not, it's a felony.
