The generally accepted rule, given current rates of developement, is that you shouldn't set out on a space journey that will take more than 50 years ( unless necessary or it is about 50 lightyears away). Some will leave after you and beat you there.
It wouldn't be a bad thing at all to arrive at a planet that has already been made habitable. It would save a lot of work and a lot of pain. Sure, you miss the glory. But the main point of the trip is survival of the species, not glory.
