Intervening in a crime doesn't make you Batman. That's what cops do everyday. What makes you Batman is dressing like a bat, having a secret underground lair, a bat car, a bunch of cool crime fighting tools, and getting called for help with a giant bat signal.

It's not that hard to legally change your name to Bruce Wayne. I think that's almost certainly easier than developing a bunch of gadgets and tracking down all the city's worst criminals. It's just a little paperwork

Nah, Batman is super human physically (like dodge bullets) and is super humanly intelligent and superhumanly skilled. Making billions is way more possible than that.
