+388 Its alot harder to make a successful rock band than rapers all you have to be able to do in rap is rhyme quickly. rock bands have to find a good guitarist that wont mess up often, a good bassist, drummer, and singer, amirite?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

All you have to do to be a good raper is have sex with someone without their consent. To be a good **rapper** you have to rhyme quickly.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

whatever same thing lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

yea they're not even close

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an idiot, there's huge difference between raping and rapping...although rap did rape the music industry.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I was going to say that -.-

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Plus, bands actually have to write their own lyrics, and they have to be quality and meaningful lyrics, not 3 minutes of drugs, alcohol and sex spoken to a beat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Definitely. The phrase is always sex, drugs, and rap. Never Sex, drugs, and rock & roll.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an idiot. It IS mostly sex drugs and rock and roll.......

by Anonymous 13 years ago

*Facepalm*

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yup, facepalm for how stupid you sound

by Anonymous 13 years ago

alcohol is a drug...... couldn't u name another vain thing rappers rap about than 2 drugs?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

your stupid.rappers do have to write their own lyrics

by Anonymous 13 years ago

RAPERS??????

by Anonymous 13 years ago

you forgot that bands need talent. Rappers don't have any talent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

can you rap? can you make those songs on the spot? are you famous? oh, your not? riteee.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Lol "rapers"

by Anonymous 13 years ago

hating entire genres of music is a sure sign of you being an idiot. not all rap is about drugs, sex, cars and violence. not all rock is about "meaningful emotions and issues". lots of rock is about drugs, sex and violence. lots of rap is about meaningful problems and issues. i bet most of you can't rap, so you're hating on it saying that it's just talking.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No matter what rap is about, it still sucks. It's just talking quickly and rhyming to a beat.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Exactly ^~^

by Anonymous 13 years ago

um no.. good rappers have a command over the rhythm, tone, and pitch of uttered language (like drummer does over the rhythm of various pitches of percussion.) ((((syncopation)))

by Anonymous 13 years ago

thats your opinion, you can't say it sucks because you dont like it, you can say you think it sucks, or you don' like it.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

(Anonymous) ^ What that guy said.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

exactly.thank you for being like, one person commenting on this whos not stupid.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

np haha it's just sad seeing lazy people judging an entire genre of music by the trashy shit they hear on the radio, instead of looking more into it and finding good underground/older rap. there's little that sucks about rhyming eloquently over a 4X4 beat. that's what tons of poets have been doing for centuries, and this is what hip hop artists do in a modernized, musical context.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I agree. Thanks chloe.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Didn't anybody notice the a lot?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Yes. And the "Its." Bleh.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I know... :( I hate bad grammar

by Anonymous 13 years ago

ok, for one thing, its an opinion if you like it or not, and, you do need talent to rap, can you become a millionaire making a bunch of cds? no, no you can't, plus, only newer, hip hop is about sex, ect, old rap, or good rap, is about life, things that happen, struggles, the people that like it can relate to the troubles, stop being so ignorant and stfu.its not just talking quickly to a beat. can you think of something to rap on the spot? no, no you cant.any form of music takes talent.and in case you havnt noticed, other forms of music have bands, songs, cds, ect, that only talk about sex, drugs, ect, so please stfu.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Why would anyone make a song on the spot? A song takes weeks to perfect (at least rock songs). That's why i hate rap.'Oh look at me i'm talking into a mic with some lyrics that took me 2 sec. to think about i'm expressing so much emotion!'

by Anonymous 13 years ago

rap offs are on the spot, the actual songs take more than a week to make. music doesn't have to "express emotion" to be good

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It kinda does. That's the point.I can't expect you to understand that since you probably listen to lady gaga and stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

umm no it doesn't.. that's not why people read books/watch movies/watch tv shows. they tell a story, they want to escape from their world or learn. + rap is poetry, it obviously expresses emotion. you probably like MCR and bullet for my valentine hahah

by Anonymous 13 years ago

No i like led zeppelin , pink floyd and nirvana among others. All song lyrics are supposed to be a form of poetry in one way or another. Some excell ( Led zeppelin - Stairway to heaven ) and some don't (Eminem - Without me and most of his stuff) Btw that story they tell it's supposed to express emotion.Tv doesn't do that because it's you probably watch mostly comedies not dramas and stuff.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

haha right i like them too and most of pink floyd's/led zeppelin songs arent about emotion. okay, immortal technique excels led zeppelin in poetry. uummm yeah but (most) people don't watch it for the actors emotions, they watch it for the story

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Have you ever actually listened to a led zeppelin song? http://www.lyricsfreak.com/l/led+zeppelin/stairway+to+heaven_20082076.html Here, take a look.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

of course i've listened to them, i have their whole discography. i'm not saying their poetry isn't good, i'm saying immortal techniques is better.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Eminem is the greatest lyricist of all time. he rhymes words that don't rhyme. He is a musical genius and if he wasn't then im not sure how he became the best selling artist of the decade...plus he is extremely versatile. His songs can be serious or funny, emotional or angry. dont talk shit on something you dont know.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

for a song to be good, is in a persons view and opinion, you can like a song for the lyrics or because it is catchy and can brighten your mood.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

my point is that in rap offs the can think of it on the spot, and not everyone can just do that.plus, to go with chloe, rap is poetry, i know a lot of rappers who wrote poems and then rapped them. you shouldnt just hate on one genre of music because the songs youve heard, most likely on the radio, you dont like.a lot of rap is good, and well writen. and, to guci, some of eminems songs are funny, like without me, so? funny songs can lighten a mood, some of his songs are really good, like when im gone, for example. also, ever heard of 2pac? yeah, a lot of his songs are meaningful and i know that he wrote poems then rapped them, if you cant understand why you shouldnt hate on the entire genre then youre even more ignorant than i thought.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

First of all.Dude paragraphs - use them it hurts my eyes. Yea but why rap it if it's good? Why ruin a perfectly good songtext? I'm sorry but a rock song is 100 times more complex than rap will ever be.And no i'm not saying that more complex = better i'm just saying that it annoys me how someone just talks something and calls it music.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

it's 2010, rap is almost more popular than rock now. just join the revolution instead of listening to music 30 years old. rock isn't that much more complex than rap, and rap is music :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I refuse to join the lines of people who listen to lil wayne, lady gaga and justin bieber. Sure rap is a little more popular but so are all the talentless retards nowadays.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Most people who like rap actually hate Justin Bieber.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Unless you've made the effort to learn the intricacies of both genres and their style's, you shouldnt say that one is more complex than the other.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Rock is more complex because it uses a lot of instruments as opposed to rap. The bassist of led zeppelin can play 12 instruments - half of them you probably haven't even heard of. I have never heard a rapper play an instrument. And music without instruments is very hard to listen to. (And if you say that lil wayne can play guitar then i'm sorry but you are retarded)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Rock can be very uncomplex. I've heard songs that are just people screaming incoherently. I guess that would be death metal or something...? But it's still a subcategory of rock.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can't say that i listen to that type of songs but those are still more complex than rap. Go ahead duplicate the instruments and everything from that song - oh wait you can't. Give me a rap song i can duplicate it in 5 minutes ( except of course my voice will be different)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I can't because I don't remember what song it was. :P Just kidding, you're right, I can't duplicate a song that took about 5 or more people to create. But I can't duplicate a rap song either. Maybe that just means I'm not good at duplicating songs. :P But would you be able to create your own rap song? Write 3 or 4 verses and a chorus, and create a beat with some music added? I'm not saying you couldn't, but I'd actually love to see you do it! :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I would try i mean i have autotune what more do i need heh. I won't do it though cause i can't stand rap - a personal opinion. Btw sorry for all the rants people.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I think autotune is for making singing sound better... At least that's the context I've heard it used in...

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Since you're going on about how rock uses instruments and rap doesn't how about you take a look at The Roots http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojC0mg2hJCc You won't be able to duplicate that easily.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

That's not that bad but still the singer sings a bitt not just raps.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

So it's still rap... Try listening to some of their other stuff too they're pretty good, and try to keep your mind open instead of bashing genres ;)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Just like in every rap song. In every rap song I've ever heard, the person will sing a bit, but just in the chorus... I've only heard like one or two where that didn't happen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It's funny how bashing rap while being intentionally ignorant about it has become "the hip new thing!" and everybody is jumping the bandwagon.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Agreed.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Rap is really complex, because it's spoken. You have to make ordinary, spoken words sound lyrical, and it's just as hard as writing a song you sing, if not harder.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Rhyming quickly takes quite a bit of effort and intelligence... And making it sound good and mean something requires actual talent. Before you go saying that every single rap ever written is about drugs/sex/violence, listen to something by Eminem. Like Beautiful, or Stan, or When I'm Gone. Those are deep, not that that's a concept you'd understand, especially since you confused rap with rape, and made other grammatical and spelling mistakes. (Which is completely forgivable if you are younger than 12, and/or if English isn't your first language, or anything else that would legitimately stop you from understanding proper spelling/grammar)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

@480718: rapping isn't a talent it is stupid high speed rhyming. I've never done it and I won't ever subjugate myself to it by lowering my intelligence. Rap is stupid. It NEVER sounds good even if they aren't talking about sex or drugs. I'm not famous yet. But I will be and I guarantee that. Once again I will say that a rock band needs talent. Rappers don't have talent.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

How about you learn how to use the reply button?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

There's more to rapping than just rhyming quickly, there's rhyme scheme, cadence, rhythm, lyrical devices, imagery, melody, tone, etc... It has pretty much everything that rock music has, the emphasis juts happens to be on different elements. If you think that (good) rapping doesnt take talent go listen to a Lupe Fiasco song and attempt to understand all the intricacies on a first listen.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Dang it, everyone beat me to it. *RAPPER. Lol

by Anonymous 13 years ago

Typos are okay when you can still understand what they're saying, but when it forms a totally different word it makes it really confusing.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

jonsey2323 - I understand what you're trying to say. However, might I suggest running you posts through a spellcheck before posting so people like me don't have to wade through your misspelling and incorrect grammar to get to the heart of the matter?

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I'm actually in a rock band. Don't have a name yet, though.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

You're an idiot for posting this. First becase you can't spell "rapping." Second because this has to be one of the most unoriginal posts on this site. There must be at least 15 other post just like this. Please, be original.

If you can't spell correctly, you are in no sort of position to be judging what is and what isn't musically correct. Learn a bit of grammar and take 3rd grade spelling again and then, please, speak of whatever you wish. Until then, however, don't listen to what you don't like, listen to what you do and stop arguing because no one is about to change anyone's mind at this point.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I didn't know you could either like rap or rock? I love both, and not the garbage on the radio. 2pac, Biggie, blue oyster cult, pink floyd, etc. All amazing artists, and I doubt anyone could even fathom being that talented, ever.

by Anonymous 13 years ago

I faved because you said rapers :)

by Anonymous 13 years ago

It is very hard to make a successful rape...
