A lot of people do. One size does not fit all. Carbon fiber ones break down in sunlight.

Besides having multiple sizes many larger companies that take OSHA seriously will throw away a ladder as soon as the wight limit and warning stickers are faded as OSHA requires clear labeling. Many companies also have their own in house safety inspector that is supposed to pay visits to their different sight and keep them in check often writing up people fo violations for insurance liability and to avoid the fines they would incur if an actual OSHA guy showed up. I've been asked on a few occasions to throw away a ladder simply because the stickers were scuffed up or faded. Same thing with worn extension cords or cords on tools in general, even if it's a simple replacement plug it's not not the original safety tested equipment so in the trash it goes.
