The people here are stupid. Op is right. Chlorophyll absorbs light without damaging it as it's needed to provide energy for photosynthesis. Melanin doesn't absorb light as chlorophyll does but it "absorbs" it in the way that the presence of melanin allows you to absorb more harmful sun rays(think UV) than those without melanin. There's a reason skin cancer rates of those without melanin are almost double that of those with.
