A person who is in a vegetative state is technically an inanimate object, amirite?

animus is Latin for spirit or soul. Inanimate means without spirit or soulless. Make of that what you will.

Yeah but what about a vegetable that is in a personified state tho?

Yes, there's no consciousness inside there, only a body, a corpse that's half functioning.

Except the breathing, heart beat, blood flowing, stomach working, hair growing, occasional twitching, sporadic eye movement and of course bowel movements.
