Worse, it's soy beans. Estrogen. It's bad for men
For some reason every time I eat one of these things I get a massive headache.
The word "most" in your title is sad and unnecessary.
Good point though, this is an extremely unpopular opinion for obvious reasons.
Stir fried edamame with garlic and chili oil is incredible. They have them on the menu at a few sushi restaurants where I live for a couple of dollars more.
Edamame is delicious. Also, thin-sliced radishes with olive oil and salt. Depending on price I wouldn't necessarily order it at a restaurant, but edamame is delicious and very nutritious.
Make sure they're fresh, and add soy sauce. They should be firm ish and salty
I love edamame. Don't need anything more than a sprinkle of salt on it.
I feel like you just don't like beans in general.
Some garlic butter and some chili paste! Chefs kiss
Edamame is usually served as fingerfood for beer in Japan. It just pairs well.
I love edamame, but I agree it wouldn't be the best choice for an appetizer.
In China people sell them out in the open in summer in a huge pot for people to take home. Have a beer, watch some sports while eating edamame is peak middle age lol. In China it's cooked with a ton of spice and usually marinated overnight in the fridge (or a day in a huge pot ha). I could eat 2 lbs by myself while watching TV when I was a kid lol.
Yeah I was going to say I think it's a great food to pair with other Japanese food, which is sort of the point. The problem is that like Applebees or some crap will serve edamame now. We just mix too many styles together and you can get combinations of dishes that just don't make sense and actually taste bad together.
I love edamame
Edamame are kind of like the peanuts of the Asian world. You're not meant to just eat them raw, no salt, no seasoning. You have to add some salt, maybe even some garlic seasoning or spicy seasoning. It's a bland taste normally, so it gets super elevated with the slightest amount of seasoning.
Me too!
!gif
What does that mean
It means you're going to overpay for soy beans.
its pretty cheap and to me its just comforting kinda how potatoes don't really taste much
Edamame
Explain how that gif is edamame. It looks like a pea pod and an E?
Pod-e
E for Edamame. You can learn other fun words to spell by watching educational shows like Sesame Street and Super Why! on PBS Kids.
Uh, have you seen edamame before?
scoot over, i'll take yours! 🤤
I like it for the texture and biting sensation. It's a bean… a dash salt and maybe seasoning perfects it
Super cheap for the restaurants and they throw on a deadly amount of salt to make them decent. I also can't stand when they use a ton of green bell pepper in rice dishes
Edamame is fantastic
Have you ever dipped it in spicy mayo though? You might change your mind.
Lemme introduce you to a little thing called salt
What's not exciting about beans! I eat like a pound of dry beans every day
Edamame is actually really delicious with just a tiny bit of salt.
If you think it's flavorless then you haven't had it made correctly
I just hate it because the seasoning is on the outside and you don't eat that part so what's the point? 😕
Dude. Try spicy garlic edamame. No mames.
Ora
Si mames
Edamame is gluten free and vegan, so I mean if you are dietary challenged (like me, with Celiac Disease) I appreciate having little things on a menu I don't fret about eating.
Leave my baby edamame alone!! >:(
You two should get married then. That way you could eat all the Eddamame the other leaves behind.
It is light and tasty, though. Just add some salt and it's a great appetizer. You don't blow your load on an appetizer. Wait for the main course.
I think it tastes great and it's very good for you. 🤷🏼♂️
You're crazy
the bbno$ song on the other hand…banger.
it makes me feel like the bean is a reward as you use your barbaric tendencies to open up the skin. makes me feel accomplished
That's Cornish game hens for me.
You just had a bad edamame experience. Some places have garlic edamame. Plus most of the time edamame is served in a Japanese restaurant. It would be kinda off if they served Brussels sprouts or carrots for appetizer .
Imagine going to a steak house and they gave you wanton soup as your appetizer. (I mean that actually might be good thing)
but the satisfaction of popping it into your mouth...
You need to be excited to eat?
With a little salt on the pods, it's delicious. And it's fun to eat. Can I have yours?
Edamame is a simple, healthy, refreshing, great for sharing, and tasty snack when it's served cold or warm. Just sprinkle some salt on it and enjoy. It's not a dish to impress people but it's simplicity is appreciated.
Got that sacred umame flavor
Tell me you never outgrew happy meals without telling me you never outgrew happy meals.
The salad kits I get have a little package of these beans in them. I agree, the flavor isn't there for me either, but when you put in a salad with dressing and other things (tomatoes cucumber etc) it does add a nice texture. Flavorless but texture is on point when you need that extra crunch. :)
after going veg for 3 years, my mouth automatically waters when I pop veg protein. later on I google the amount of protein and realize why it did without my knowing. plus I looooooove salt so I salt them and damn thats good.
A little salt and olive oil…simple and tasty.
also, tomato slices served this way
Campari tomato slices with a touch of fish sauce has been my absolute fav
Putting salt and olive oil on anything neutral makes it tasty. The beans are still gross
The beans have a good texture. They add the texture, the salt and oil add the flavor.
A lil garlic salt ahhhhhh most guiltless and wholesome snack
In a small pan bring a bit of butter and garlic to a roast, then add soy, sriracha, tiny bit of rice vinegar, red pepper flakes and a pinch of starch to thicken. Toss with edamame.
My favorite snack.
I like how you give another example when I will still eat the tomato as an appetizer
I mean, caprese salad is a thing for a reason.
One of my favorite appetizers is blistered cherry tomatoes with salt and an aged balsamic. Not far off from a steamed and salted bean in my book. La dolce vita is obviously not for OP though.
Your tastebuds have been overstimulated by a western diet. Not everything needs to be roasted in butter or oil for it to taste good. If you can't appreciate the nuances of flavours in simple vegetables and ingredients than yeah, you're likely over stimulated.
Zero taste. That's it.
I love Japanese food, but I fully agree! I will admit I'm a dope and was eating edamame incorrectly for years (peel and all) before realizing you pop the beans out. Even then, still not a fan.
Mealy, bland and cold. Do NOT see the appeal, and I usually love veggie appetizers.
You ... ate the thing with the peel ? Like a french bean ?
Soy beans are a gift from god. And I don't even know who that is!
It's good, but not $8 good.
I tried it for the first time recently. I'm not really sure how it tasted by itself because it was very well mixed into a very tasty salad.
You most likely haven't tasted real soy sauce then.
Op has clearly not eaten good edamame...
I prefer edadade
Endamaly beans or pavlova?
Prefer it over peanuts
It's a salt delivery device.
Great with beer....I love it as a snack
I always order edamame at sushi restaurants tbh I love it
I actually agree with this one. No amount of oil, garlic, or soy sauce makes a steamed bean with the texture of wet sand appealing to me.
Yes
Jeez OP take it out on one dish
Edamame is an un-appetizer
If you think its plain, sad and boring then im sorry to say you havent had edamame treated properly. A little salt and olive oil or a little chili oil can take such a simple vegtable and elevate it so far. As with most foods, its not necessarily the food itself but the freshness, handling, and preparation that affects the diners experience
do you not put salt on it? edamame is kinda like a salted nut like a peanut but not.
