yesssssss
I love snakes.
I like snakes now. The only ones we have in my area are small garden snakes that likely kill vermin and whatnot. Kinda pretty looking too. However growing up was rattlesnake country and that was most unfun. Those snakes I can live without for many reasons
I am rather fond of snakes, but there is a healthy rattler population where we take our dog hiking and I am careful to avoid them.
As a kid, I loved snakes, and still do, even though I was deathly afraid of them. I think there is some genetic thing in all primates than makes us fear snakes, but thats always what made me fascinated with them. I dont know if the word is majestic but they are utterly captivating. Just watching them move, watching them hunt, I was always hypnotized by them, there is no other animal that makes me feel that way about them, the combination of fear and reverence i have for them. Snakes are badass.
A fear of snakes is built into a lot of people as an evolutionary fear, the same way a spider can spin a web without learning how.
I picture fear of snakes and spiders as hardwired in our brainstem next to breathing
There's a little garter snake in my backyard with three baby snakes that I've seen, they're so cute
Snakes, rats, and sharks are so demonized.
Okay! Many things!
Firstly, agreed.
Secondly, to adress people's worries:
1) Snakes will not go after you, ever, you could k.o. them easily. This also goes for the mega dangerous ones, even if they managed to hurt you, they're probably not walking lut of that encounter alive. They don't have an instinct to hunt you down because, not only are you too risky of a meal, you're also a terrible meal. You don't fit in their mouth, literally, it's physically impossible for a snake to eat you, they're mostly aware of that.
They will either run away or try to scare you off, leave, and you're good.
2) Only the venomous one's have any power to harm you at all because their bite force is pitiful, their fangs are brittle or they don't have them at all. Constriction simply isn't even a tiny threat, even for the big, big, guys. Look up the diet of a boa constrictor.
3) β¨Venomβ¨, outside of the big names, snake venom is on par with bee stings.
When it comes to the big names: you're straight up never going to be around the deadliest ones. Kings, mambas, they're not a concern, you'll never come into contact with one.
For the others, anti venom is wildly available wherever they are present. You will not have any trouble getting it if you're bitten. That said:
If you're bitten by a wild snake in an area where there are venomous species:
Unless you're in very specific places where there are many different types and identification will be useful, don't kill it and take it with you. There's no need, they know which one bit you because it's the only one around. π
If you're in one of those places though, bonk it with a stick and take it with you. Generic antivenom does a good job but you're better off having the snake identified. If you're in one of these places, you'll know, so don't overthink.
I don't care about them in the woods, that's their home. I only kill snakes intruding like in the garden or buddha forbid the house
WHY kill it? There are rehome services, there is no need to kill. If you have some kind of a hook on a long stick, you can rehome it yourself. Although I do understand your concerns
it's safer to kill it, I just don't mess with things that bite
A snakes biting power is almost null.
Their lower jaw isn't connected at the chin, make them absolutely horrible biters.
They puncture if they have fangs, but never bite. Those "fangs" on most snakes hurt about as bad as a bee sting, same goes for the venom in the venomous types.
Unless you're talking about the king cobra and black mamba types, snakes are close to harmless.
Throw a bucket on them, wiggle a hardcover book under, ans throw them out like an insect lmao.
I don't see the issue of only killing the ones that come into your house. it's much safer and much more efficient, no bites (even if they're just fangs) and no cage's, just grab the head and body and put it where you need
It's an issue in that it's unnecessary and hurts the environment.
It's not safer π€·π»ββοΈ. If it's a dangerous snake then you shouldn't approach it at all (instead trapping it from a distance and calling authorities), if it's not dangerous then you just killed it when you could have dropped it outside, not nice.
One snake coming into my house isn't going to affect the environment. I also don't know if they're dangerous or not, so it is easier And a lot cheaper. Also the bones are good for the garden
π I've literally already told you, if you don't know if they're dangerous then they're not.
People don't just live in places with dangerous animals without knowing.
That hypothetical snake wouldn't be a threat for you but you want to kill it anyway because "the bones are good for the garden"? Shame on you.
Lmao your shame means nothing especially when I'm not wrong, it's not like I'm going out and hunting snakes
Well, almost everything bites
Yeah well snakes evolved to do it the best. also venom, if it's not a copper head I have no clue if it's deadly or not. Snakes are cute but wild animals are a big no
I think a lot of them are cute tbh
Snakes are cool to see in the wild. I do understand why people would not want them around their home though.
I love snakes, find them fascinating and don't fear them at all.
I just saw this after finding a snake by my front door for the first time
