Some video games* Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077 2.0 are widely considered to be some of the best games ever made.

Your right, cyberpunk I'll hate till I die because of how broken it was at launch. Elden ring I tried playing but I couldn't put myself through that hell

Oh hey I work in this industry. I make AAA to mobile games. From my perspective, the gaming industry grew incredibly large. It went from geeks in a LAN to covering the globe on every device. With that came huge increases in team size. Too many people are involved in making a AAA game. Instead of having a concentration of extremely passionate people, you have one main studio, three co-development studios, dozens of contractors, and a much more demanding publisher. They're behemoths now. Expensive and often an uphill battle the entire way. Let's just say somewhere along the way, passion lost its fight.

It's so incredibly sad, Activision dropped all their other games for CALL OF DUTY and they ruined everything. Prototype 1&2 are my GOAT and they never made a 3rd due to CoDs success

Fromsoft are killing it right now and Capcom have been having a good run lately, but they're more the exception than the rule right now. As someone who's been playing games for 30+ years, you need to diversify your gaming portfolio. Play some jank. Play games made by one dude sustained by the pure power of instant ramen and insomnia. Play love letter games, inspired by the classic of old. Do you want shiny graphics, or do you want insight into the machinations of an Eastern European dev team brute forcing a game engine to bend to their will through technomancy?
