-41 It shouldn't be a big deal not learning how to ride a bike, amirite?

It is a lot of fun though and life experience worth having. But it's not necessary.

Same with driving a car after an accident. Odds are you won't break a leg riding a bike. Life is unpredictable.

Of course. But there are some activities which tip the odds towards absolute disaster. Skiing is one of the most prominent ones. If it's a choice between "doing activity which may or may not break your legs" and "not doing said activity" I'll opt for the latter. Cycling isn't as dangerous obviously, but cycling in cities is ridiculously dangerous from what I've seen.

I hear there are giant safe plastic balls you can put yourself in so you will never be hurt. Everyone can call you scared bubble boy.

Amazing. Thanks for the advice.

I don't understand why you would be surprised or annoyed by this. It's something basically everyone learns to do as a kid. Unless you have medical condition, of course people are going to be surprised by this.

Well I didn't. And it's never burdened me. Plenty of kids out there where parents couldn't afford bikes either. I'm not annoyed by riding as an activity, just the stigma attached to this stuff that it's something "everyone should do". There's no necessary reason why everyone should.

I know what you mean. I learned how to in my 30s, because I wanted to. But people act like it's a necessity. Not learning how to swim, that is wrong. But bicycle riding is not.

Dude can't even get to the park by himself. His mom drops him off.
