+38 Boycott Companies with RTO Policy, amirite?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm not boycotting Amazon because of their RTO policy. I'd say I'll never work for them, but I had zero interest in working for them prior to this anyway.

RTO save your job from being ship to oversea.

Do that as an employee... show your unhappiness by quitting and not going in. Surprising as it may sound, most of us jobs that can't be done remotely. And even more surprisingly, most jobs where you can WFH are those that are highly paid, so you'll have little support from the rest of the folks here that are having to commute hours every week just to pay their bills

Or… you could go into the office again, like work and life is annoying enough without handicapping yourself for some self righteous stand against an inevitability

My relationship with Amazon is that I give them money and they get my item to my doorstep in 2days or less. I don't care about anything else.

You do realise plenty of jobs are 100% office/on site based. It's not like a couple of days in office is the end of world

Imagine getting this butt hurt over a job requiring you to work at an office. Here's an idea...... don't work there.

by Some-Steak2222 2 weeks ago

This is something I'm conflicted on. On one hand, I want to fully support people being able to WFH. I think commuting sucks, it makes a lot of peoples lives easier, and there's plenty of jobs that can be done from home. On the other hand, in my experience over the last few years, it's just harder to work with people who are WFH. Group projects are much more difficult, and a lot of stuff is getting done way less efficiently. Maybe it's just my experiences, but I've dealt with too many people who are just worse employees when they are WFH.

Any work from home position will eventually be moved overseas due to cheaper labor costs. Enjoy it while it lasts before you are unemployed and then you can shift to being a victim of that

Someone's pissed they have to back to the office

I like working in person. Work requiring any collaboration is significantly hampered by remote work. While conferencing technology helps us, productivity is lost.

You can certainly boycott companies and policies that you don't agree with, I support that a 100%. I'm not in love with organized boycotts, as then you get leaders with their own agenda, and the rest follows.

"don't buy food near your office " Yeah, that will show them!

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Your employer wants you to show up at the office? The horror!!!!!!! This thing is so overblown. Yeah, going to the office can be a pain sometimes. But it is much easier to work with and learn from your coworkers in person than it is from zoom or whatever. I have a hybrid arrangement. I work from home from some days. I go to the office some days. I have no problem with this at all.

This would be impossible to do. First, people would have to keep track of which companies are doing this. Then they'd have to find alternatives. Boycotting a single company is hard enough. Boycotting thousands is impossible.

OP could avoid buying fast food or grocery shopping, since none of those employees seem to be able to work from home.

by austenchamplin 2 weeks ago

Or unionise. Boycotting companies is something customers do. Why would customers boycott a company because it's forcing their employees to commute? Your time and energy would be better spent rallying the thousands of employees to strike rather than the millions of customers to boycott.

What's RTO? You mean they're making you actually go into work like the rest of us? Good you should have to go in

by Kevon15 2 weeks ago

Yea, I never really saw the drawback of having people go to an office? I think it really is just to check on workers to make sure they're not slacking and face to face meeting are generally easier to manage than Zoom calls. But also if you work from home you could argue that the job has to pay for at least part of your internet, electricity and I'm sure it just makes more sense financially for businesses to not to hassle with all of that

by Fondricka 2 weeks ago

Never had the advantage of working from home so if I did maybe my opinion would be different. I think I personally would be less productive and more easily distracted at home.

Yea, my wife worked from home for about 8 months during the bigshut downs in 2020-21, and it was not good for her mental health. Just waking up and going 5 feet to the other room to work all day without actually interacting with people other than messages and Zoom meetings that had to be work related.

Do you have any justification beyond wanting everyone to be brought down to your level?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I mean, shopping locally requires someone to physically be there: isn't this against what OP is proposing They seem to be of the mindset of 'I shouldn't have to, but others should'

100% permanent WFH is not sustainable for a company. Institutional knowledge and group cohesion does not build itself. It requires people to be in the office at least some of the time.

God, do you know how much easier my life would be if I could work my overnight healthcare provider job from home? Just imagine not having to go to the office every night at midnight five nights a week. Yeah you're right people should start boycotting rehab.

Put your adult pants on and go to work.
