Seriously.

by Entire_Recognition45 2 weeks ago

To be fair what you eat matters more than how much you eat. Not all calories are made the same. So eating 100 calories of broccoli will have more benefits than 100 calories of bread (just an example). When I lost weight I didn't reduce my caloric intake. I actually just changed my diet completely. Got rid of processed foods, gluten, sugary foods, things like that and opt for fresh fruits, veggies, meats and the like. And in fact I ended up consuming more food that way and still lost over 80lbs.

"JusSt CaLoRiES iN CaLoRIeS oUt bRo" i have a cousin who eats wayyy more than me and is generally very inactive yet still way leaner than me

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Sounds like your cousins metabolism is better than yours, so they burn more calories throughout the day than you.

by Quiet-Soil 2 weeks ago

You just need to know how many calories you need. This can vary wildly

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yeah, just look at the 2000cal guideline, it barely applies to most people. Just my height and weight make my BMR ~3000, and my activity level takes my TDEE to about 3500 just to maintain my weight. It's kind of alarmingly easy to let your weight start slipping away, and there are days where it feels like it takes more effort meeting my TDEE than it would to just not eat at all.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yeah, they're just gifted by nature.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Which is a round about way of saying weight loss.

by Quiet-Soil 2 weeks ago

Go on a fast. You will see

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That doesn't mean you can't lose weight. He can lose easier, and won't gain as much, as fast as you do. If you change your lifestyle, you CAN lose weight, don't search for excuses.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You might be confusing "it's easier for some people" and "it's impossible for me." One of these things is true. The other is unscientific defeatism.

by Entire_Recognition45 2 weeks ago

Yes, and?

by Diana72 2 weeks ago

You're coping my friend. Unless you have a disease calorie in calories out works for everybody.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

My overweight friend says this to me all the time. The classic "How do you eat all that food and stay so skinny" He doesn't realize that the pizza and beer I am shoveling in at the moment he is seeing me is probably the only thing I have eaten all day.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Right, that could be genetic. It also happens as you get older. That does not mean it isn't also calories in, calories out. You just have a different metabolism. However, having a slower metabolism doesn't mean you are just permafat forever.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Thing is, I wouldn't be too worried about weight. Weight is only a very small factor in overall health. Your cousin could very well have fat around their organs, but you can't see that from the outside. So being lean does not automatically equal health. I personally go off of how much energy and stamina I have, how strong I am, how well I am sleeping, but not my actual weight.

by Shanieparisian 2 weeks ago

Everyone has different metabolisms. I can eat 2000 calories a day and lose weight when someone who's the same age/sex/height as me can do the same and gain weight. You aren't special, everyone is different.

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

The volume of food doesn't matter, it's the calories. Also so many people eat wayyyy more then they realize

by RiseOrganic1114 2 weeks ago

so you believe "my cousin eats more but weighs less" rather than hundreds of years of scientific research.

by Creative_Leather 2 weeks ago

Look up high volume low calorie options. He may be eating more volume, but fewer calories.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Its the snacks and the sauces. Just dump those in change for spices and your good.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

His metabolism is different. That could be a genetic thing, true. But it doesn't deny that you can lose weight, it's just harder and requires more discipline and dedication. Predisposition is not definite.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I mean bigger people have faster metabolisms generally. The bigger you are the more you burn and the more you have to eat to stay that big. Barring uncommon thyroid issues which don't influence weight as much as most people think they do.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

So he has a better metabolism than you..

by nkessler 2 weeks ago

Metabolism deltas are rarely big. If you think someone eats lots it's likely they arent or they are expensing that energy somehow

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Is this a joke

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

No, it's fat logic. There's an entire movement out there that denies that obesity is unhealthy or that a person has any control over their weight.

by margaretta49 2 weeks ago

There's no logic there.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Thats some expert level cringe right there

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I do support the development of GLP receptor drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy. Being constantly hungry trying to lose weight is an extreme mental strain on people and can lead to binge-eating disorder. Of course, the positive effects need to outweigh the negative side effects. But for many people it literally saved their life.

by rodriguezeliane 2 weeks ago

the average american spends almost 10hrs sitting yup that's definitely nature and genetics

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

"It's muh genetics bro!" Right so that's why obesity has only been an epidemic in the last 50 years or so of all human history…

by Rare_Credit 2 weeks ago

But how do you know your genetic baseline? From all the fossil and bone evidence we have, the normal baseline for humans are to be lean and muscular, good runners, like you still see in some primitive tribes. By being overweight you're going against your genetics, that's why being overweight causes so many health issues, your body has not evolved to be that way. You're looking at it completely the wrong way round.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You're not going against your genetics by being overweight. You're going with your genetics. We're genetically built to try to consume as many calories as possible while burning as few as possible. The problem is that when we evolved like this we didn't have access to easy calories 24/7.

by curtkris 2 weeks ago

Easy calories isn't the problem, the issue is that we don't move enough. Our ancestors wouldn't have been physically able to eat so many calories to put on weight once you take away calories they would naturally burn being so physically active and needing to keep themselves warm etc. Being overweight IS going against your genetics, otherwise why would it cause so many health related issues?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That's part of the problem, but the root is absolutely how many fast, easy, and abundant calories we have access to. Processed foods also digest easier so you feel hungry again sooner

by Rare_Credit 2 weeks ago

I'm not sure it's the bigger problem, over people just not moving. I think you'll get away with the eating if you moved/exercised a lot

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Epigenetics can cause various genes to turn on and off depending on what's happening in your environment. Such as, if you are in a situation where you aren't getting food as regularly as you should, your genes might change to store more fat than they would've done had you had regular access to food and thus no need to hold on to as much as possible as a result of scarcity.

by Shanieparisian 2 weeks ago

I mean I lost weight and its going fine.

Op Weight loss doesn't exist Also Op While you can lose weight.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

At first when I started reading I was like wait what does this guy mean that "weight loss doesn't exist and while you can lose weight."

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

The problem is recreating the conditions of 30-40 years ago in your own individual life. It's hard to swim again the tide. Because I doubt the old days can be recreated community-wide.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I don't think it is that hard in your individual life. Healthy food is pretty accessible and easy to find in most places in the country, and exercise is free. But it obviously takes a commitment and effort that wasn't needed back then. And I doubt we will go back to that society short of some humongous event that resets society. but the point is it's obviously not primarily a genetic thing.

by Lindgrenmeagan 2 weeks ago

This not only unpopular it's just false. Sorry bub.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

lmfao. Just lmfao. The dude even freaking said you can lose weight.

by Bashirianrosali 2 weeks ago

It's not a cope fighting your genetics by putting down the fork

by dorris75 2 weeks ago

Its a cope, the chad will never put down the fork and is always thin

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

No, he just has got a better resting calorie burning. A gift by nature.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Which is improved by exercising, and eating properly.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You are misinformed. People greatly overestimate "resting calorie burning".

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

lifting weights burns a lot of calories

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

See, I was going to suggest that you don't use the word chad, as it undermines your argument. Then I had a scroll through your profile and it's all very incel-coded. You good, bro?

by Entire_Recognition45 2 weeks ago

Calories in, calories out. Theres no fat people during a famine. Some people have thyroid problems, etc but most people just dont care enough to change.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That some hardcore extra fat extra sugar copium

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This isn't even an "unpopular" opinion it's just straight up false 😂😂

by LopsidedMedicine7921 2 weeks ago

I promise that no matter who you are if you don't eat you lose weight. Idc what your genetics are

by jschumm 2 weeks ago

Eat less

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This isn't even an opinion it's just wrong

by Deep-Ad 2 weeks ago

Excuses for laziness. Work harder.

by Kundeludwig 2 weeks ago

A very long time ago I lost 110lbs in a year. Although apparently I didn't according to the OP.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I think you are overselling genetics. It can be a factor, a major factor even, but it's hardly universal for everyone. I'd say its a major factor in only a minority of cases. Poor food habits and lack of exercise tend to be bigger factors. Unless you have an actual condition, saying "I can't fix it, it's genetics" is basically just throwing your hands in the air and giving up.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

So, if OP believes this than why are there identical twins that have large weight differences? They can weigh differently even though they share the same genes, no?

by Jealous-Air 2 weeks ago

Epigenetics. Each twin could very well be in totally different environments.

by Shanieparisian 2 weeks ago

Genetic and environmental factors interact to regulate body weight. Overall, the heritability of obesity is estimated at 40% to 70%.

by New-Entertainer 2 weeks ago

This is the stupidest take. Fat people are fat because they eat too much and don't move around enough. If you eat less and move more then you will lose weight, it's just a fact.

by Commercial-Car 2 weeks ago

As a fat person, I have to agree. But it isn't so much eating too much as it is eating the wrong foods. Volume wise, I eat less than the average person. However, my food choices have been horrible for the past decade. I'm working on it and am down 50 lbs, but I'm convinced that healthy foods just don't taste as good as the calorie loaded ones. Like zucchini is good, but zucchini stuffed with sautéd mushrooms and a blend of cheeses is the chef's kiss. It also doesn't help that most celebrations and social situations center around food in the US. Catching up with friends? That's a lunch or dinner date. Watching the game? appetizers galore. Even funerals come with food here.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Yeah well, I'll change my original statement to eating too many calories and not moving around enough, because I know there are some foods out there that pack a tonne of calories into a somewhat small package. Same with drinks too, there are some drinks that are packed with sugar and calories in a relatively small serving.

by Commercial-Car 2 weeks ago

How do you explain the fact that we obesity rates have been growing over time?

by Koeppjohanna 2 weeks ago

It only happens in the united states, and its because fast food has became more accessible and therefore people who are genetically more prone to obesity, will get obese/overweight. However there are still the chads who eat a lot of fast food and still stay lean in the united states

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

That doesn't change the fact you don't need to eat fastfood, maybe some people are "gifted" but as you've just said it comes from fast food so don't eat it.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Eating the portions of two to three people is not genetics fault

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I bet genetics also determines if your house is a mess or organized too right? What kind of immature loser thinks their opinion is better than doctors, dietary professionals, and just plain common sense?

by Extreme-Time-5741 2 weeks ago

Guess what, it actually does! Even the enthusiasm and hygiene desires have some links to genetics.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I think you need to step away from the genetic determinism and look into therapy, my dude.

by Entire_Recognition45 2 weeks ago

But then he'd have work to do.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Indeed.

by Entire_Recognition45 2 weeks ago

Yeah therapy is going very well, so far i have gained 7inches of height, and i facially improved a lot every since i went to a therapist. Oh it also got me muscular.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

🤡👏

by Extreme-Time-5741 2 weeks ago

I'm sick of doctor slander. I have had 1 bad doctor in my experience with very many doctors at different VA Medical centers which always get a bad rap for patient care and I can say with certainty doctors almost always give you as much information on your health as is available it's usually the individual not listening to them and thinking anecdotes from their friends and strangers on the internet are more reliable.

by selinajaskolski 2 weeks ago

This is certainly one of the opinions ever had.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This is not unpopular. It's plain idiotic. Pysical change takes dedication. It's not for the lazy looking for the easy button, although there are easy buttons they all result in gaining the lost weight back with interest.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I've lost about ~25 pounds in the last 4 months by "cutting out" junk food, fast food, and ultra-processed food and trying to eat 8 to 10 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. I've experienced no hunger and, outside the first ~2 weeks of cravings, haven't required much willpower. I've been up and down in weight many times in my life. For a long time I believed what you ate didn't matter it was only about how many calories you ate. As I get older and more experienced I have become certain that what you eat matters far more than anything else. People are mostly obese because they eat garbage, this leaves them hungry and unsatisfied, and they over-eat. These foods are also engineered to be hyper-palatable leading to people over eating, often to the extent of binge eating. Your genetics do matter, no everyone will become stick thin by eating well; but if your BMI is over ~30 your problem is not genetics, it is your diet.

by Historical_Wing 2 weeks ago

You're right. Calorie consumption is largely determined by your appetite, which you have very little control over. Calorie usage is largely determined by your metabolism, which you have very little control over. An extreme diet or exercise can lead to temporary changes in your weight, but if you live a normal life, it will always return to your genetic predisposition.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Have fun making excuses instead of doing the work. What have you tried? What makes you think you are just cursed genetically?

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

I was 96kgs 2 months ago. Im now 84. But im pretty sure that ill stuck at 82 or 80. I'm currently balding (probably due to higher testosterone or the weight loss) and my target were my thighs yet i lost little to no fat on my thighs its mostly my belly which is another indicator that weight loss might not make your appearances better

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

None of this says anything about genetic obesity. It's just your weight. I didn't ask what you look like. I asked what you've done to change it, or why you think you can't.

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

Okay. So what have you tried to change this "curse"?

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

This curse is not changable, its given by nature and nature hates me so much to the point it made the curse immutable.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I'm asking WHERE. If your family has a history of obesity, diabetes, or thyroid issues.

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

You're literally playing make believe

by Cold_Paper1230 2 weeks ago

Lose more fat and for sure you'll lose fat in your thigs

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Are you boofing copium? And this isn't an unpopular opinion if you're saying facts are wrong. It's just wrong. You eat less, you gain less weight. You use more calories you're putting in, you lose weight. Simple science. Just because someone's metabolism is faster, and they burn more calories at rest, doesn't mean weight loss doesn't exist.

by Madalynadams 2 weeks ago

Where the 50 pounds I've lost 3 years ago are ?

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You are correct that the vast majority of people are not capable of losing weight and keeping it off. Something like 80-90% of dieters regain the weight within a year.

by jacobijarrett 2 weeks ago

I bet you're a bit on the husky side huh

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

This is a popular american mindset. Enabling and focusing people to feel good about themselves without addressing the underlying issue.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Bro wtf is this. just eat less Boomers were all thin in the 70s and 80s. Those are your genetics.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I am not sure if it is like that but there is a reason why people try so hard to lose weight, just to get it back easily. Also, a reason why people going to do surgery or try every diet on the planet to get there. I blame the availability of food around us. With the spread of stores that offer quick food, it is easy to just eat when you think you are hungry, and more importantly, to eat highly processed food. I am struggling myself with that and i know, that the pounds lost are minimal, to the pounds i gain. Of course you can train yourself to not eat certain things, but you can't beat your brain. So, sure. Maybe weight loss is an idea rather than something that will work in the long run.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

...? Of course weight loss exists. A person can change their behaviors and relationship with food.

by kubryann 2 weeks ago

It's not just unpopular, it's factually incorrect. Lol.

by VisibleMix919 2 weeks ago

I dont believe the concept losing weight is actually a thing. While you can lose weight. What am i reading.

by Away_Mousse4227 2 weeks ago

I gained weight because my family was broke as a kid and I drank soda all the time. How the hell was that genetic? I lost over 100 pounds and everything from working to BREATHING is easier. How is that devastating?

by Leschtoby 2 weeks ago

I used to feel this way until I found out I was gluten intolerant. No matter how little I ate, I was constantly bloated and fatigued. If you're truly struggling with weight (actually eating well and exercising), I would recommend getting tested for potential food allergies. Years of getting my hormones checked left me feeling defeated, but ultimately there was an underlying issue.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

How to say youre fat without actually saying it lol

by Kind-Band 2 weeks ago

I'm 5'3" and ~ 255 lbs. Yes, I'm considered morbidly obese, but I have changed my diet and now walk three miles a day, (want to slowly start pushing it to six; twice a day). I'm starting to feel a lot better now. I've also noticed that I've been sleeping better. My mood feels better. I've also noticed that I don't snore as much and family has noticed too.

by WatchMinimum 2 weeks ago

Weight loss, in terms of lbs on a scale, if of itself isn't a great barometer of overall health. Body composition, in terms of lean muscle vs fat, is what you want to be looking for. People can be making great progress, convert a couple pounds of fat into a couple pounds of muscle within a couple weeks, and be discouraged because the scale isn't reflecting that work to the extent that they would like. Don't go by the scale; how you're looking and feeling is a better barometer. Fitness and nutritional literacy is really lacking and some people see it as too burdensome of a journey to even start. But really, habitual changes over and extended period will get you where you're going. Find 60 or more minutes of time for physical activity 5+ per week, which is very doable if you find something you like and cut out web/tv/phone time; learn what constitutes a portion; understand proteins/fats/carbohydrates; eat less sugar and processed crap; spend a little more in order to buy quality meats and produce from local butchers, delis, and farms; hydrate and sleep. These are all very doable, you just have to stack one day on to the next and sustain it for a while and then you're rolling. I believe in you :)

by krisdejuan 2 weeks ago

This isn't an opinion. This is stupid.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Ok point to the person that told you to lose weight. We'll hurl insults at them til they cry or delete all of their social media accounts

by OnlyView6930 2 weeks ago

Wow. "I don't want to accept that I permanently have to eat less and exercise so I'm gonna blame doctors". Please grow up

by JunketParking 2 weeks ago

Tbh, doctors cannot cure many of the diseases we have. Some procedures in the field is kind of a cope as well.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

You can still loose weight by eating less and getting exercise just like the doctor tells you. Maintaining a healthy weight and exercise routine also prevents a lot of the diseases they can't cure, which they also tell you. The fact you don't want to build healthy habits to not only loose weight but keep it off is your fault.

by JunketParking 2 weeks ago

Research clearly disagrees with you. You are living in a food system which makes it very hard to life healthy. The entire setup is working against you. You have a lifetime of habbits to fight against. This is why it seems impossible at times. There are plenty societies where no shortage of food exists, yet they are not all the same level of obese. There is no credible research that indicates that these country differences are due to some gene(s).

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

I hate how many times I've lost and regained the same 20-30 lbs. Hate it more when I think how hard that may have been on my heart. Unpopular opinion me and my fat ass fully agree with!

by tatummoore 2 weeks ago

Did you drop the weight fast or slowly? This happened to my mom when she tried keto. If you lose weight gradually it's easier to keep it off, but if you're dropping it drastically then it's likely to come back just as fast as it left. If you lose it slowly over time your body is slowly adjusting, but quickly is kind of like a shock to what it's used to.

by Anonymous 2 weeks ago

Our bodies have a set weight they want to spring back to over and over, and without extreme (ie obsessive) actions taken to lose and keep weight lower than that number, your body will generally have a number it wants to stick to. As long as you are moving around, eating well, don't worry about what the scale says.
