I mean... that's what it is, that's what you're gonna get from the type of platforms we have. Algorithms created to drive engagement through division don't help, but this is what for-profit social media is. If it were operated as a public service it could be different, but there's definitely not enough faith in public institutions currently for 'government-run Facebook' to get off the ground. Weirdly I guess there is enough faith in business, where the common folks don't even get a say in choosing whatever batch of representatives their system affords them, but businesses were a bit sneakier before the extent of the manipulation started to show

The Internet itself is one of humanity's crowning achievements as a global database of all history and scientific achievement. Social media is a toxic addictive dump that feeds off our weakness and attracts the worst of humanity for the sake of profit. You can find detailed instructions how to make life saving drugs.. and then also find terminally online basement dwellers laughing at footage of people getting blown up by drones in a war.
