+33 Soup is the worst thing you could make, amirite?

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

:( i love soup.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

OP has clearly never had high-quality vietnamese pho or a good bowl of real ramen.

by LastLeader7889 2 months ago

No soup for you

by vita09 2 months ago

Adios muchacho

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I get this reference.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Actually, the worst thing you could make is probably a house fire, assuming we're sticking with a category of culinary misadventures.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Soup has a low chance of house fire, fire starts use soup to put it out, minus a oil fire of course.

by hipolitodenesik 2 months ago

Methinks that OP would say this is the best use for the soup

by Anonymous 2 months ago

My roommate once started making broth for soup while I was taking a nap then went to hang out with our neighbor, leaving the pot to simmer. I woke up in a gray cloud of smoke since the water cooked off and my pot was a full of charred bones and meat. My pot still has black stains in it. Oh and the smoke alarms never went off 🫠

by stiedemannanjal 2 months ago

I suppose there's that bloke from Asia that supposedly undercooked a bat and caused a global pandemic...

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Bro hasn't had good soup.

by Garland95 2 months ago

I love tomato basil soup, Pho is soup too and I've had some really good pho.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Pho is fantastic, the best soup I ever had was beef pho

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I love Pho. It's great don't get me wrong but boy Bun Bo Hue or Bun Rieu is where it's at! Try them :)

by Far-Instruction 2 months ago

So it really is a case of personal preference. I like soup, if it's done right, but I don't like pho

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Pho sure!

by Several_Reaction 2 months ago

I'd rather have a nice black peppery creamy corn chowder than a bowl of corn. I learned how to make roux thickened soup and now I'm obsessed with making soup and want to open a soup restaurant so this opinion makes me personally offended lol

by Careless_Chair9752 2 months ago

Do look up some Brazillian soups! If you like meat, Vaca Atolada (direct translation would be Stuck Cow stew, yes that's the name, I don't know why) is one of my favorites. Also try Caldo Verde (translates to Green Broth) for a vegetarian alternative (although having some ribs or bacon make it an instant 10/10)

by No-Service4404 2 months ago

OP has never had lobster bisque

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I absolutely hate lobster on its own— but a good bisque is just 🤌🏼

by Anonymous 2 months ago

It can make the same ingredients more flavorful

by Hodkiewiczreina 2 months ago

I dunno. I remember some crab soup from the pirate restaurant in Savanah that I still crave a decade later.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I think it was The Pirates' House. Really good food. Or was. She Crab Soup.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Hey. Make sure you go eat at Zunzi's while you're there. God I miss that place.

by jammiefay 2 months ago

Skill issue

by MurkyEntertainment25 2 months ago

Lmao

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

No one liked OP's soup.

by Guilty_Principle 2 months ago

This is funny 😂

by belleboyer 2 months ago

I'll die on this hill

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

So would my husband! He completely agrees with you... I don't get it, freaking love that watery soup mess.

by belleboyer 2 months ago

He and I can be friends. Idk about you though

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Someone's looking for a fight.

by jane04 2 months ago

Someone's looking to kill ingredients

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Well if I don't like soup I would use it to make something else. Like a marinade to make something better

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Clam chowder kicks dick and it's 1000x better than anything in it by itself.

by batzcrystal 2 months ago

And this guy knows soup.

by Neat-Frame-4852 2 months ago

Clam chowder is so good.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Clams by the.selves is better and potatoes are so versatile you can make so many things that are better

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

So many things other than what? Is something better than clam chowder but not as good as a plate of plain clams with chopped celery and heavy cream and flour on the side?

by framishemar 2 months ago

French fries. Potatoes make French fries

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I will do no such thing

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

You clearly haven't had a good potato bacon soup.

by Ok_Structure_9169 2 months ago

Bacon literally by itself is better

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I made a really healthy spicy soup when I was sick a couple weeks ago and when I'm sick, I crave soup. So those perfectly good ingredients tasted amazing together, helped me get better and I can't think of any other dish where that many super heathy ingredients go well together.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

My personal favorite is corn chowder soup. But I can somewhat get what OP means. The texture of soup and non soup feels different. Though I don't mind soup personally.

by wisokygarett 2 months ago

Soup can still be very flavorful. Soup is good if you have an upset stomach because it can taste good, easy to make, and requires less effort on your stomach to digest. A nasty cold on a chilly day, a good soup slaps as hard as a 5 course meal.

by Large-Patience 2 months ago

Slap the soup right out yo hands foo

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Don't mind them, the soup lovers are still in the matrix. Only real free people like us know that soup is the result of depression and disappointment.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Soup is the gateway to despair

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I made soup a few days ago and had leftovers for lunch. Come at me.

by Additional-Guard-678 2 months ago

I will not come at you if you are serving soup. I disrespectfully decline

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

It's soup. Cope lol

by Additional-Guard-678 2 months ago

Exactly. It's soup

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

What about soup bases for other meals? Tonkotsu ramen without the pork soup base would just be bland noodles in water with no flavor.

by TallTrainer 2 months ago

Do you just chew on the stick butter when baking?

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I'm just over here baking my correct opinions and stiring the pot

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Not even a small bowl as a side?

by monty41 2 months ago

Why would I waste ingredients to make a small bowl?

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

At a restaurant, if they say that comes with soup or salad. You never try a soup?

by monty41 2 months ago

Well if there are options and one is not soup. I take the non soup option

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

What if you don't know if you're hungry or thirsty?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Make a smoothie

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Anytime, homie.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Most soups are pretty mid imo. There are some exceptions where the taste is something desirable, for example chicken soup with real flavorful chicken and torched onion n garlic etc which gives the broth a great taste with some noodles, or ramen, but overall I agree with your point that you can make better tasting and better textured dishes with these same ingredients.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Tastes like eating wet sand and hair

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Vegetable soups without meat are bad imo, soups with concentrated meat flavor and actual meat in them are fairly decent, but still worse than their nonsoup counterparts

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Eat meat

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

The worst part about soup is the soup

by Hansenjoshuah 2 months ago

From start to finish just bad

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I agree that most thin soups suck, I do love stews, hotpot, noodle dishes like ramen, and chili. But yeah, runny, watery soup is pretty terrible unless you are sick and just want some warm broth.

by Legal-Brief47 2 months ago

Then make tea

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Look at mister money bags. Sometimes you have a very limited amount of ingredients to feed a lot of people. Soup is the way to make sure everyone eats. Period, I grew up in a big family with a single mother on a fixed budget. Stew was the go to to feed a growing family

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I'm not saying you can't feed your family. I'm saying the ingredients in soup are better utilized to make other food and putting them in soup is a waste. You could take the same ingredients and make more food that tastes better so you can give that to whomever you like

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Not really bc the liquid from the bones stretches the meal. If you look at the poorest countries, soup is the way to feed the greatest number of people at an affordable cost. But, that doesn't mean you have to like it. You sound rich so you can eat filet everyday. Good for you,

by Lazy_Quit 2 months ago

I have copyrights on it Soup should not be a meal. Have some self respect. Don't do that to yourself

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

A soup is just a salad with added broth

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Interesting take

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

American soups? Sure. But what about Pho? Or Russian Borsh. What about French onion? I think soup can be really good depending on what you are in the mood for. Like a light chicken soup is amazing when you are sick. But a thick mushroom stew after a cold day of freezing your ass off outside is amazing.

by Hjohns 2 months ago

I like soup.

by General-Scratch 2 months ago

Soup don't like you

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Not my problem.

by General-Scratch 2 months ago

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I don't find soup filling

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Because it sucks

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Stew, yes. Chilli, yes. Curries, yes. Soup, no. I totally agree with you!

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Excellent Welcome to the dark side

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Ah, to me, soup is poverty food you make just to use up the stuff in the fridge or because certain things are on sale for a really good price. It exists purely to prevent food from going bad.

by Candido53 2 months ago

Ah the garbage disposal of foods

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I agree soup sucks

by ViolinistSalty 2 months ago

AGREED. Soup is literally seasoned water and I hate it. No texture besides soggy the ingredients. There are a couple exceptions like tomato soup where you dip a crispy grilled cheese.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Welcome to the dark side.

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Potato soup? Minestrone? Clam chowder? Broccoli cheddar soup? Some soups are purposeless and lazy, but there are definitely some winners

by Anonymous 2 months ago

But the ingredients can be used to make something better

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Debatably some of those, but idk about broccoli cheddar soup. Because the next best thing is just cheddar broccoli

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Broccoli with cheese on it is better

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

The best soup I make is turkey bone broth soup. The base is from boiling the turkey bones/scraps after thanksgiving... Not sure what else I could have used those ingredients for.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

You could have used the bones to make tools to help yourself get out of the stone age with that opinion

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I just had soup and it was good. Pork chintan, dashi, shoyu tare, rice, pork soboro, scallion oil, scallion greens, fried scallions and shichimi togarashi.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I'm sorry for your loss

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I feel sorry for your mother.

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Potato soup and chili are better than their individual ingredients

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Potatoes make French fries sooooo

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Happily

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I don't know what else I'd do with leftover bones but make soup

by SmartTap9512 2 months ago

Make tools out of them. Or jewelry

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I never get excited for lunch when it's a soup. For me that means the main dish is bread and the soup is just my bread sauce and I wouldn't consider it something that will make me full. The broth makes it feel like a drink with extra steps. That said, I love the taste of most soups, I would just never ever make it myself because that's a lot of preparation for something I would have to eat two or three plates of to feel less hungry without adding bread.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Exactly soup sucks

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Have you tried Vietnamese pho, Korean sullatang, Thai tom yum, Jewish chicken soup with matzo balls? 😋. These soups are all based on the long cooking bones to make a bone broth. It's leftovers to make a soup bc it feeds more people and stretches when you are poor. I don't think I could make anything tastier with these leftovers. Asian soups are so packed with flavor and yummy! I don't get it, but more power to you!

by Lazy_Quit 2 months ago

More soup for you then

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I'm really putting a lot of effort in here. Unlike those who make soup

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Anyway like I was saying. You have chicken noodle, tomato basil, French onion, minestrone, lentil, miso, broccoli cheddar, butternut squash, pho, ramen, potato leek, matzah ball, borscht, egg drop, wonton, hot and sour, split pea, black bean, mulligatawny, avgolemono, tortilla, clam chowder, corn chowder, gumbo, chili, that's about it.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Sounds like there's a lot of ingredients there that could be better utilized

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Take me to your leader So I can tell him to give you better comebacks

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Do I like some soups? Yes. Is it a single course meal? Absolutely not. Chicken and dumplings doesn't count, it's soup with delicious soggy hot biscuits, therefore more than one course

by Timmothy93 2 months ago

Soup is not good

Soup is SO good when you're sick

by Powlowskirandi 2 months ago

Make tea

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Why have two hot liquids

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Soup is known as one of the harder types of dishes to do well. Sounds like you're getting ahead of yourself and bad at making soup.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Soups without meat protein make for a good argument. I'd rather have a good cheesy potato soup than a baked potato with cheese on it. Same for soups with beans like a three bean soup I had at a German restaurant. I don't want beans by themselves, unless they're bush's baked beans. Also old timey cheese and bread soup; using stale bread and old/hard cheese you can make a delightful and filling soup instead of rawdogging 2 separate stale ingredients. 🤷‍♂️

by oswaldoschamber 2 months ago

I'll rawdog you any...nevermind

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

In the cases of tonkotsu ramen and beef pho, animal bones are an essential ingredient and it is the best version of food that one can make with them. There is no better way to prepare food using pork bone or beef bone than a soup. Also, those are incredible soups, so it's not like the ingredients are finagled into being decent food. They are legitimately used to produce something that is awesome.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

No

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Good have mine

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Honestly you sound like you're 14 and your favorite food is chicken tenders. I doubt your record of Michelin dining if the only complaint you can formulate is that "it ruins ingredients" like that actually means anything. Otherwise, your parents wasted a lot of money on someone with a Denny's-tier palette.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

😂. This is the best response…hilarious.

by Lazy_Quit 2 months ago

Your pallet is bootyhole pal it's ok

by smithamjacklyn 2 months ago

I'd argue yours is because you like soup and soup is like eating sand with hair in it. What kind of pallette is that

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I don't think you know what soup is dude. Someone is messing with you

by smithamjacklyn 2 months ago

So, how do you like to consume your "ingredients"? Raw I assume, one after the other?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I'll consume you raw

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Mmm, veggie and meat bath water.

by Unique_Access 2 months ago

Lololol

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Keep that soup away from me

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

You drink liquid

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

How exactly do you define soup? Where are you drawing the line?

by Natural-Depth 2 months ago

I define it as ass

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

You can berate me anytime daddy

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

In my former home town Brisbane Australia, there is a seafood delicacy with the undignified name Morten Bay Bug, but it is the most delicious thing you can get just about anywhere. I'm sure turning it into a soup would be a capital offence

by Anonymous 2 months ago

Probably

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

I like to stir the pot (pun intended)

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Fair.

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I think you're just bad at cooking

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I think you're just bad ;)

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Where do you draw the line at soup? Does it have to be thin because personally I like a thick soup with a high amount of solid parts. My chicken soup is basically chicken and gravy and sometimes I put in noodles so it's almost a pasta. Also do you consider stew and soup the same thing? My family makes a thin stew however the recipes I see are thick like gravy. I think if we agree soups are thin and stews are thick then my family makes a beef soup and I a chicken stew. Anyways I'm just curious if I call my chicken noodle a chicken pasta of some kind would suddenly change your mind about it? Similarly what's the difference between a chicken nugget, chicken strip, and popcorn chicken?

by Anonymous 2 months ago

I can see where you're going with is and I will say soup sucks

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Most vegetable based meals are made pretty bland but they don't have to be. Use fresh ingredients - any vegetables you want basically. I recommend potatoes or even better sweet potatoes for a really creamy texture. Add in water ofc and preferably coconut milk. obviously garlic and onion. Maybe some ginger and/or cayenne for heat if you're into that. Blend it all together until it is a smooth consistency. Add spices to taste. (I also add in sauces if I want, like soy, bbq or sweet chili.) Heat up. Boom, done. It is easy, nutritious and delicious — if it isn't delicious, it is because you messed up with the spices because the taste is completely up to you.

by Beatricedare 2 months ago

The taste is completely up to me and I don't like it

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Soup is actually bomb af and if you have any culinary experience you can make ingredients shine so tastefully. You my friend are just a hater.

by Hot-Foundation 2 months ago

If you have any culinary experience you would agree that the ingredients could be better utilized

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

That's absolutely untrue. Thai soups have some of the most complex flavor profiles that utilize and showcase its main ingredients. Try eating something other than your cuticles and microwave hot pockets.

by Hot-Foundation 2 months ago

He is wrong

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Do you eat ramen? I literally don't know anyone who doesn't have ramen stowed away in the pantry. That's yummy salt filled, msg flavored delicious soup.

by Lazy_Quit 2 months ago

Is it soup though? Is it?

by Emergency_Class_899 2 months ago

Unless you do a dry ramen where you just boil the noodles and add sauce, it's a completely, unhealthy and cheap but satisfying soup. Now, is it good soup…probably not, but what else are you going to eat when you're hungover. 😂

by Lazy_Quit 2 months ago

Soup was one of the best things Blind Melon made!
