I mean, if I can trade the hours, sure. But every career job I've had expects 8 hours from start to finish, with lunch in there. And that lunch can't be skipped to leave an hour early. So in that case, I'm taking it to just decompress a bit

Pretty sure OP means the break isn't effective. It isn't productive in that it isn't producing a re energizing effect.

I only take my lunch break. I don't take breaks that don't involve eating. Waste of time.
