+72 At this point when people talk about "intermittent fasting" they really just mean "not eating between meals", amirite?

by Moist-Cantaloupe 1 week ago

Hmm I hadn't noticed that. The people I know that talk about intermittent fasting (albeit a very small number of people) all do gaps of 8-14 hours.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Is that 8 hours at night?

by Expensive_Freedom 1 week ago

That technically is an intermittent fast, hence the word "breakfast". You can factor that period into a fast, but it's important to remember that your metabolism and calorie consumption trough while sleeping. When I work sleep time into an intermittent fast, I usually skip dinner the night before and/or breakfast the day after.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No it isn't, intermittent means irregular. Most people's sleep patterns are just plain regular.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yes! lol. That particular person is usually vocal about things that normal people would consider normal. But she does call it intermittent fasting so I figured it counts for this!

by Anonymous 1 week ago

So you skip breakfast?

by Capital-Refuse8678 1 week ago

Yeah mostly (not me though, I don't do it). There is a window where they will eat during the day.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No way in hell that was autocorrect either

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It is obviously a contraction of meanenant

Meant—- mean't Tbh I just had to type it out to see what my phone would automatically add next to it with those iPhone three word options. lol Maybe English isn't their first language??

by Anonymous 1 week ago

It's pretty much just having no breakfast, and having dinner before 8. If you do that and avoid snacking, you are fasting

by Ok-Dragonfly8954 1 week ago

Yeah seriously. I've been calling it skipping breakfast for years. It's not that deep.

by Capital-Refuse8678 1 week ago

Or vitamins, or coffee or juice. If it ain't spit or plain water, it ain't fasting

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I guess this is a good unpopular opinion because literally no one says that.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Honestly never have seen this happen

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I mean, if someone is saying that they're just wrong. Intermittent fasting is a pretty clearly defined thing. Usually you constrain your eating to a short period of the day and fast outside that time.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Seems like skipping breakfast would count. If I restrict my breakfast during from 12p-8p that would seem to meet the definition

by Beneficial_Grade 1 week ago

Not eating between meals is challenging enough.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Not if you over eat every meal like me.

by weimannhailie 1 week ago

If you had no gaps between meals you would just be eating continuously from waking up to bedtime.

by Ramiro36 1 week ago

This is exactly what a lot of people seem to do.

by Moist-Cantaloupe 1 week ago

I mean I do IF and I only eat in a 6-hour window between 1pm and 7pm

by Anonymous 1 week ago

People just want to have fancy name for their diet so they can be special and there's nothing wrong with that if it helps them to lose or maintain weight.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Seems to me those individuals have a misunderstanding of what fasting is, not a shift in the definition

by Rorygottlieb 1 week ago

I don't know who you're talking to but if I say that then it means I'm only eating at dinnertime. The only things I'll consume between waking up and 6pm will be water, green tea, or black coffee with no sugar

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Or just skipping breakfast

by Anonymous 1 week ago

A simple method is to wait as long til eating. Many days I do one meal a day aka 22 hr fast. It's a large meal eaten over an hour. The entire day I feel free. Lighter. I workout or run. Can't to that everyday but it's an effective change of pace Most people I talk to about intermittent fasting are really just skipping breakfast and eating 2 to 3 meals between noon and 7pm.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

When I say "intermittent fasting" what I mean is not having money for food.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Who? Who are you people talking to all the time? WHO?!?!!?!?!?

by Wide-Magician 1 week ago

Intermittent fasting just means skipping breakfast. Which I have done for decades, but now it has a name.

by Additional-Bath 1 week ago

No it's people starving themselves all day and only have a 2 hr max eating window

by Anonymous 1 week ago

I've never heard anyone refer to it that way. I eat from 10 am to 6 pm. 3 meals with 2 high protein snacks in between. And the majority of my fast occurs while sleeping.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

intermittent fasting means they not eating anything for a long time. There's many styles to fit certain individual. There's fasting for 12 hours. Fast for 16 hours and can eat what ever they want in 8 hours. There's fasting 2 days a week, alternate day fasting, a weekly 24-hour fast, or fasting for 20 hours - 4 hours eating phases.

by Waste-Essay 1 week ago

Well there is fasting and then intermittent fasting.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

No....that's not what intermittent fasting is. I break my fast at around 12:00pm and finish dinner before 6:00pm. I don't eat between 6:00pm-12:00pm. That's roughly an 18 hour fast. I don't count the time between 12:00pm and 6:00pm as a fasting period. I try to eat two meals a day, but sometimes I will have a small snack in between the two.

Life is a lot easier when you learn to smile, nod, and ask questions. People just want to share and they like you when you let them share. It doesn't really matter what they say/think for the most part. It's not my life. If they want my opinion, they'll ask (and then quickly discard it lol).

no it doesnt, youre imagining it.

Go with the flow. Why throw a rock into a still pond unless you enjoy the ripple effect.

by Anonymous 1 week ago

Yeah I kinda feel this one. People will say stuff like "I do intermittent fasting by only eating between 12pm and 7pm." That's cool, but that was just called "skipping breakfast" when I was a kid. I guess snacking has become very normalized between meals compared to when I was young.
