The Birds (1963) is nowhere near Alfred Hitchcock's best films. amirite?

I would agree, it's not one of his best. I'd replace it with Rope or Notorious.

Considering how Hitchcock treated Tippi Hedren, I'd leave The Birds off the list for that reason.

This is a fair statement. Do you feel similarly with The Shining?

Yes.

Fair is fair. I have a hard time not seeing The Shinning as an all time great horror film, but I don't have a problem with people personally knocking the film down for Kubrick being an asshole (even if I personally don't in this instance.)

The Birds is just overrated in general.

It's okay. The whole concept is a little goofy. I love how in usual Hitchcock fashion it's got 45 minutes of exposition that has nothing to do with the plot of the film. Did Melanie really go swimming naked in Rome? What's the deal with Mitch's mother? Is the teacher a lesbian or did Mitch's mother drive them apart? That whole Mitch's mom/Melanie/Teacher who might be a lesbian dynamic is more interesting than the birds part.
