+59 People don't seem to feel sympathy when it comes to famous people. amirite?

I disagree. For each staunch eat the rich, hater, there's a dozen, hundreds or thousands even depending on the celeb, diehard fans that care about every little thing.

Came to say this. Thinking of Michael Jackson, but really any star.

I mean you also have to consider how dramatically overblown their problems are, sometimes by no fault of their own, but because of hyper-obsessed tabloids practically tearing their hair out about "BREAKING: MILLIONAIRE HAD TO SWEAT ONCE THIS MONTH AND THEIR SHOE GAVE THEM A SLIGHT RASH". Yes, it's hard being in the limelight, it's hard dealing with the press, it's hard dealing with the media speaking for you, it's hard that the general population seems irrationally involved in your day-to-day. That's true. It's also true that this struggle nets them a financial security that is unmatched by a staggering majority of the entire planet. Most people live in some degree of financial insecurity. It's not strange that people are rolling their eyes at it.

most sports athletes didn't come from much Citation needed

Take away golf and tennis. And if you're still curious I'm sure I can find something for you.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Sure, for example provide me a source that says most NFL players came from nothing

by Libbie50 4 days ago

"most sports athletes didn't come from much" = "came from nothing"? NFL players = most sport athletes?

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I'm not saying take away football, I'm saying you're putting words in my mouth, asshole. You don't get to choose the terms and then say they come from nothing and change my statement. Here's 5 data sets for soccer, the most popular sport in the world: "Soccer and Social Mobility in Europe" (Pawlowski et al., 2018) "Born to Play: The Role of Socioeconomic Status in Talent Development" (Baker et al., 2003) "The Making of Elite Athletes: The Role of Family and Social Class" (Hickey & Kelly, 2008) Data from FIFA and National Federations

And what do these datasets say?

by Libbie50 4 days ago

Not all, not even all actors. It depends on the person. Actors just seem to be the most out of touch out of all humanity.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Ehhhhh I'd argue CEOs are the most out of touch of anyone out there

by Anonymous 4 days ago

Na, they have to know how to run a company and they have to know what people want.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

You shouldn't care about either

MJ is the antithesis of this. In the early 2000's, MJ was widely regarded as child-endangering, potentially-pedophilic freak with a bleached asshole. After he died, he went right back to being the king of pop.

I have only so much sympathy for famous people. But not much. After a certain point, if you're in the kind of work that will get you famous, you probably know it and if you keep going with it, I fully expect that you understand your fame. Movie/TV stars are the worst in my opinion. I mean I don't want anyone hurt, but I give zero F's for them. They are so out of touch with normal every day living that the rest of us deal with, but act like they can tell us how to live because of their fame. I don't care that JLO has been married 23 times. I don't care that So and So's car was stolen (they have 10 more). Their lives are largely unaffected by simple everyday things that would kill any one of us.

I mean, to me it totally depends on what is the problem and how they're expressing it. For example I couldn't feel bad for Sydney Sweeney when those articles about her explaining how she faced stress due to finances came out. She was saying something along the lines that they don't pay actors the same anymore and it's expensive to pay her assistants, while also living in LA. Around that time she had bought a 3M+ house with a tons of rooms in one of the best spots of LA, no wonder her bills are so high… now she has even more properties, more expensive ones. On the other hand if an actor gets diagnosed with a nasty medical condition I will feel bad for them, as I do for any other human being.

Famous peoples lives are constantly broadcast into our daily lives like they somehow have more significance than ours because they have money and a following. I couldn't care less about any celebrity, they're rich. They can literally just throw money or status at any problem, genuinely they can kick rocks

by Anonymous 4 days ago

If you can buy a Ferrari whenever you feel like it, then yeah I don't care about any problems you have in your life..because everyone has problems in their lives, but we cant all buy Ferrari's now can we..also that same celebrity doesn't care about you or any of your problems..some might pretend to, but that's only because millions of people are watching and judging them....I cant imagine how inconvenient it must be to have the money and networking of a celebrity to help you solve your problems as opposed to someone who doesnt

by Anonymous 4 days ago

These takes are crazy because I completely agree with you. I don't care if x person has a million dollars and a nice house if they just lost a family member or friend or just got diagnosed w cancer? Like it's just human to feel sympathy and empathy at that point

Famous people and celebrities/movie stars/etc are not necessarily the same thing. People become famous in all sorts of ways, good and bad. Frankly I think every last one of them is entitled to feeling hurt when a person invalidates their suffering just because of that fame. All the good in the world doesn't just delete the bad.

by Anonymous 4 days ago

I rarely feel sympathy for famous people because they have complete financial freedom to do what they want. I feel like if people were less obsessive about famous folk they would enjoy their lives more. Hypothetically if I was famous I would rather have random people that mean nothing to me not show sympathy rather than a bunch of parasocial stalkers that feel the need to defend and stalk my every move.

by huelsjaleel 4 days ago

not specifically famous people, when it comes to famous people they must be rich too, if they're rich they can absolutely delete 99% problem of their life and why would we symphatize someone that already have it easy? so it more about not feel sympathy to rich people, that's what i get
