by Anonymous4 days ago
Did you get called a nepo baby recently?

Your mama called me Daddy recently

lol the 12 year old has come out to play. You have fun with that, my man.

Did daddy just hire you over a more qualified person and get called out for it?

That's the point of nepotism though, that there's usually no hard work involved to get to a certain stage because of your connections

I will concede this is an unpopular opinion, BUT: yes there's bad in being a nepo baby. If your social, political and economic élites are nepo bebies there's no incentive for the middle class to improve (nor there's is a concrete possibility to do so). Social mobility is crucial to keep a functional society running. The moment in which people will start seeing their window of opportunity closing it's the moment they'll side with revolutionary forces to overcome the status quo. Revolutions are made by middle class in pursuit of social mobility. By your reasoning, if being born in the right family is just an opportunity, also going to the streets with pitchforks and torches is

Yes kingship and monarchy are nepotism to the extreme. And I'm not arguing for that. But if a person got a job because of daddy and they do a good job, it shouldn't be held against them that they are a Nepo baby.

Even if someone else would have done a better job, was more qualified, and in fact was the best candidate?
by Anonymous4 days ago
I think you misunderstand me. Nepo gets you in the door, it allows you the best coaching training and education or whatever your specific industry needs. After being set up for success it's up to the nipple baby to succeed. But yes that's probably happened at entry level

Jason Connery was asked this same question, i.e. did he think he owed the fact that he was a film star himself to the fact that his father (Sean) was one? He said that if you're the son of someone famous in the industry you get the chances in the beginning that you wouldn't otherwise have had, but after that you've got to be good to keep your career going.

There's nothing wrong with being a nepo baby. There's everything wrong with benefitting from being a nepo baby without having earned said benefits.
