I don't know about you but I wouldn't be willing to use the water that comes out of the ground/falls from the sky. We're not paying for only water, we're paying for water processing as well.

Tap water costs money because it has to be processed and the pipes don't install themselves.

Petroleum, gold, and other natural resources also come out of the ground. But I agree with you, water is renewable, so it's different. But also, you're basically paying for the processing and purification, not the water itself
