1)You don't have to be poor to not want to waste money... that's just smart. Throwing money away is stupid and definitely not the way to stay well-off. 2) There are quite a few college kids on this site, and sometimes college means temporary poverty in exchange for affluence later- also not anything to scoff at.

If it was just $200, I'd totally get it. But, it's not. You need the mandatory data plan which is $30+ a month, and then the actual phone plan, so it adds up. To a lot.

It means you have the same phone for 2 years, and you have to make it last unless you want to spend hundreds of dollars on a new phone. A touchscreen is a LOT of work, too.

Well my Droid was only $100 dollars... And my unlimited plan is only $20 a month. Yeah it's expensive, but it's not $200 dollars, with a $30 a month charge.... So a year will only cost me 340 dollars, not 560.
