0In a romantic sense, does love exist? True love, to be more specific.I believe in loving people around you in a general sense. Like the love you consume at a young age from your parents, or whom ever has raised you. Or like the love and attachment and defensiveness you feel about your closest friends. What i’m not sure of, and may never be, is the idea of true love. Perhaps that in itself is the problem, The idea of the idea of true love, that, true love is in the end just an idea. And a very personalized one at that. One could say that it boils down to the individual and how much they believe in such a thing. I personally believe in being captivated by someone, being passionate about someone, basically i believe in infatuation. Infatuation to its max. I think others easily mistake it for love. I think people confuse their “being in love” with really just loving that person for who they are, which I would categorize as love of your friend. So many people stay in relationships, not because they’re in love, but because they love that person as a person. If true love exists, I think it would be meant to be as a temporary thing. Not something that lasts forever, but either transforms into a strong, lasting, sexual friendship or it fades away, it dies. And when it dies the passion and attraction leaves remnants, fiction between encounters with each other. Which is why they say that two people who were previously in a relationship cant be friends after, and if they are, then they were either never truly in that “love” stage, Or they still are, or want to be in that stage. There are all these common ideas out there that true love lasts forever and that you only have one soul mate. I personally don’t agree with either of these ideas. Like all ideas though, it’s just an idea. There’s not much saying who is right and who isn’t. My idea, on the matter is that there isn’t one soul mate per person but thousands. That true love isn’t meant to last forever, but as a temporary experience, one you share with many. I also ponder the idea that maybe it’s when you make a relationship formal, one that fits to the idealized relationship image, that, that’s when love and infatuation lose its power. when you organize it and standardize it. When you put your idea of how a relationship should work before the actual relationship. Maybe that’s where all the magic of “true love” gets lost. I have no idea what love is, or if true love exists. I know what it means to love someone, But i have yet to understand what it means to be in love with someone. I guess this is just a topic that will somewhat uncover itself with time.
