It happens in the Hindu culture, if I am not mistaken, but by average American standards, you may have a viewing/wake, and then a church service the next morning, but the family is not present for the cremation process.

You can't see an event that didn't produce light. You can "see" the Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation, which traveled everywhere, though. The Big Bang was more like a balloon and we are inside of that balloon. We can see light that has had time to reach us, but we will never see the actual balloon that encircles us because it is farther away than light would have had a chance to reach us.
